air dog 2 165 issues please help!!

ok so i got my airdog 165 2 installed first off when i first ever installed it it never came with the suction line that hooks to the hard plastic piece that goes to the bulkhead for the draw straw so i rigged up some suction line that was a little smaller hole size dunno if thats my prob anyway i think i may have an air leak or something cause everytim i turn the truck off i have to cycle the key and make it turn over for a quick second to get my fuel pressure back up to 18 before starting it cause everytime i turn off it goes back to 0 i called air dog and they say to bucket test it im confused how to do this and also not sure how to find my air leak im thinking maybe i need that suction tube for the intake though and i should call airdog and have one delivered what do you guys think i need help!!! it doesnt keep its pressure at all after being shut off goes to complete zero and when driving it drops to 15 and at wot it can drop down to 8 from 18 somethings wrong when it cycles though it does not sound as though theres a leak sounds normal ????? someone help!!!:scare2:

suction tube for the draw straw i mean not intake and if i dont cycle the key and let it build pressure before starting and i just try starting it i get about a 2-3 second hard start:s:

I would get the correct size hose from them. There is no reason you should have to rig up your own hose. The bucket test is taking the suction line off and sticking it in a bucket of CLEAN diesel and see if it acts the same as now.

ya but what if it does act the same whats that mean then?

Got to do the test first and after that we will try to decipher the test results.

i did it and it kept its pressure better i dropped the tank today i redid the whole line under the bulkhead to all 1/2 inch fuel line all the way through the bottom of the canister then i used thread sealer on the bulk head and i tightened that how it should be and then put it all back together now it idles at 16 and under wot chip on level six only drops to 11 maybe 10 at one point :jump: now my only question is is it suppose to lose all the pressure after like an hour or two or am i always suppose to cycle the pump before starting it?:s:

i had a problem like this and it was my return line... its a metal T fitting near the rear of the head

skyler1101 07-26-2011 12:33 AM

so how did u fix it?

geedub6893 07-26-2011 03:57 AM

I cut the return line at the injection pump and the one going to the back of the head. Pushed rubber hose over it and hose clamped it. Put a T fitting on the frame to connect the two and ran the hose to the return line on the top of the tank. Very easy to do and cheap. It's a problematic area I would start at. Let me know if it didn't fix it and we can go from there.

so u basically cut it took rubber hose clamped it then u hooked t fitting to it and connected it to the stock like smaller plastic line and then ran that back to the tank?:humm:

If you pump is losing prime it is more then likely the check valve on the return line from the IP.
