does stack size change the noise

I know that an exhaust tip changes noise I got a 6 inch tip on mine and it changed the noise. I've been looking at putting a single stack in and was looking at getting a 6 or 7 inch stack. ANyone have experience with this sorta thing. I don't mind noise its not dd

D-LUX 07-18-2011 01:24 PM

ill say going from a 5 inch stack to a 6inch made it alot louder...

justin mccabe 07-18-2011 02:07 PM

I have an 8 inch single stack on my 1990 cummins and is real loud

The larger the pipe the deeper the sound. Also, the thickness/type of metal pipe you use changes the sound. Thicker metal makes a more solid sous while thinner metal makes it kinda tinny sounding

connermcpherson 07-18-2011 06:18 PM

No, there all loud and annoying

gump 07-18-2011 07:49 PM

Right on the money! :tu:

my cousin had an 8in cannon as I called it on his CR, it sounded pretty sweet but it was LOUD, real deep

Red_Rattler 07-18-2011 10:36 PM

and annoyed the hell outa the occupants on long rides in the drone zone... I have a 7" on the 95 and can verify this lol On a DD i would never have a stack :s:

gump 07-18-2011 11:13 PM

That drone depends a lot on the muffling device, although anything bigger than 6" would be excessive loud. My 4" stack doesn't have any more cab noise than the tailpipe did, just lucked out on choosing the right muffler.

1slow24 07-19-2011 05:24 PM

4" stack isnt that a little small?:nope: not trying to be mean just havent seen one that small

Red_Rattler 07-19-2011 05:31 PM

That's what she said... :D and what's a muffler?

luke46 07-19-2011 06:12 PM

muffler to me does not exist when talking about diesel. And I love my 5 inch straight with 6 tip I got some old well casing was thinking about making into a stack got some 5 6 and 8 was thinking about trying the 8

gump 07-22-2011 10:27 AM

Well I am going to do a 5" later on I think. And I used a Flowmaster 4" outlaw series muffler that sounds great.

Guys with big stacks are compensating for their own shortcomings...

luke46 07-22-2011 01:17 PM

I always love that I drive a geo to work and everywhere else and drive my 2wheel drive truck a couple times a month and people still say that.

panzer 07-25-2011 06:48 PM

i have drove a geo tracker for 3 years and before that i drove a suzuki samurai for 5 years

now that i got a truck.......everybody has something to say!!! LOL

Benjamin 07-25-2011 07:04 PM

yes, size matters......:pca1:

luke46 07-25-2011 10:04 PM

go big or go home I always tell people I'm not compensating just trying to make everything match.

gump 07-29-2011 05:39 PM

Hey that's a good one, ill use it if someone gives me crap.

WyoCumminsGirl 07-29-2011 07:51 PM

So what am I compensating for since I'm a girl with big stacks? :w2: haha
But I went from a stock 4" exhaust to 7" stacks.
And they are loud. I'd compare it to the semis running around town.
The bf has 6" stacks and they definitely aren't as bad, they're just about right.

luke46 07-30-2011 11:22 PM

sweet got all my parts in to start mine gonna start tomoro gonna do a single 8 inch thanks if I don't like it I got some 6 inch pipe layin around too

Good comeback, I got totally owned there.

I was just jabbing a stick at you guys about the "compensating" thing, sense of humor anyone?

luke46 08-02-2011 10:53 PM

Done single 8 inch love it sounds great couldn't be happier Not that bad cruising either. Pulled a rig on a trailer yesterday. I'll post a pic later but it's made out of 8 inch steel pipe
