Lift Pumps??

Ok fellas my 01 with 89k on her took a big dump last night. It would just die and then it would run ahwile and die again I only drove it about 10 more miles to get it off the freeway, and then hauled it home. I am beieng told it is both lifter pump and injection pump by the shops but buddies are telling me its just the lift pump and the shops are just wanting to cover their ass's . Anyone ever run a FASS DDRP, I dont want to run the big fancy fuel systems they have now because of the extreme cold im in I dont want those filters hanging down under the truck, You have to experience -40to-50 temps to understand what Im talking about, but those filters hanging down dont just jell they freeze solid! So what do yall think?

DDRP is a band aid. If you want to talk cold temps, look at my location. I have a FASS 150, and NEVER had a problem with gelling fuel in the filters.

tell ya what u get the ddrp and u will be sitting back on this page asking again in 1 month mark my words atleast thats what happened to me those things are like the plague i get -50 temps all winter here in north dakota air dog is the way to go ill never look back fass is also good to :bat:

Not too sure about the AD, but my FASS has posts to run coolant through it to heat the fuel, if gelling were to every be a problem. As long as the fuel in the tank is blended properly, you should have a problem.

I am not disagreeing with any previous posts, but I installed a ddrp on my 1998.5 24v Cummins and have had no problems with it whatsoever. If it goes bad then I will upgrade.

You could avoid the electrical pumps altogether and go with a mechanical pump. No extra filters to worry about that way.

the cleaner the fuel the better off you are. I like knowing my 3micron filter is there in case of a bad load of fuel. would rather replace filters than injectors or worse.

That's one of the reasons I'm still running my factory fuel filter as well. I have 3 filters between the tank and VP44. I've heard some say the factory fuel lines from the bowl to the VP44 are too much of a restriction. Fuel pressure doesn't lie, I never have less then 17 PSI at the pump, so I think the lines or of adequate size.

seems high for a ddrp you might want to regulate it down from 25 I have been told over 22 can be hard on the vp
