Chip for my 99
 

I have a 99 24 valve and i'm looking to get a chip to increase mpg's and give me a little smoke when i'd like it. Nothing too extreme. I'm currently in Iraq and any help would be great. I get to head home for R&R in another week and wanted to possibly get it to mess around with when i'm back.

A chip is definitely a nice thing to have on these trucks. Unfortunately, a lot of people have thrown chips on, and not done any other supporting modifications. Most important on a VP44 Cummins is a good lift pump. The VP relies on fuel flow to cool its electronics, and lubricate internal parts. Not enough fuel flow, and the electronics burn out. A VP will run you $1000+, so a $500 FASS or AirDog is looking pretty good. 15-18 PSI is the butter zone for a VP, any less then 10PSI and trouble can happen.

With that being said, you have many options to choose from. If you have mechanical gauges, and a 65 HP gain is what you are looking for, I suggest a Smarty S03. For quite a bit more power, the Edge Comp is a very simple chip as well. Niether of these have gauges though.
If you don't have gauges, and would like a gauge/chip all in one, I suggest the Edge Juice with Attitude CS, or CTS. I really like my CTS, as the large screen can monitor so many items at once(especially fuel pressure). Backdowns, alerts, and a turbo timer are really nice to have.

I already felt the injection pump pain last year...fuel pump went out and i went litterally less then 100 feet and in that time it burned up the injection pump so both are replaced. The fuel pump was after market and supposed to supply more fuel....and i felt the tranny pain too on a road trip from FL to MD got stranded and had to drop for a brand new one
