BHAF limitations

Sup Bomber Nation,

I have searched and have not really found something exact. I am currently running a BHAF from Vulcan Performance. I have upgraded my turbo and injectors and currently run a Super B Special and a set of 7x0.10 with added lift which is a 175hp injector. This turbo can flow some serious air and I was trying to find out if I have exceeded the limits on the BHAF? I have checked the filter minder and it has not moved. I pulled it out and tested it and it works. So far I have not even budged the filter minder, but have not been making any hard runs. Does anyone run a similar setup with the BHAF? Will it support a truck pushing over 500HP?

Also does changing out the stock exhaust manifold assist in spool up?

I do not know what my HP numbers are and hope to get on the dyno towards the fall.

you have never pulled down the filter minder? i forget which turbo i had on at the time, but i moved the filter minder about an 1/8". i drilled a hole in my bhaf for it a while back. i was surprised when i peeked at it and was like no way. both turbos i've had are stock dodge units-the hx35, and now he351ve

as for the stock manifold, i feel it does aid in spool and helps a bit with egt control. i have owned two aftermarket manifolds and would always put one on at some point. i used to have a bd pulse on this truck, and now have a pdi manifold in its place.

thebullet83,

Yea, my filter minder has not moved. So I pulled it off and tested it and it seems to work, but that is why I am confused. I read somewhere once that the BHAF flowed like somewhere around 800CFM. I know the special needs air, but is the BHAF giving it or holding it back?

i think you're fine with the bhaf. as long as it's clean, it's fine if the filter minder moves a little. when it's dirty and plugged up, the filter minder will move faster. and when you test it, i'm surprised it moves so easy. i thought you would have to suck hard on it.

i'm just surprised you've never gotten it to move, i mean i'm running a stock turbo and have moved it. (smarty and 75 hp injectors too), but that's not really all that much.

bullet,

yea i have given it hell a few times on my return trip from Knoxville back to Maryland. When I checked it nothing.....I even removed the filter so I could make sure that I cut a hole through it for the filter minder. So I am just going to put this air filter on the back burner and look into other stuff. Thanks for taking time to help me on this.

I have the BHAF on my truck with a silver 64, 6x0.018s, and a whole bunch of other crap and it seems to be doing just fine. And im laying down the low 600's at the tires. So i would not worry about it.

Im running the outerwear prefilter on mine. Are you guys? What do you guys think of them. Do you think it restricts that much?

KillStroker,

I have a outerwears on mine.

Scott@Alligator,

Thanks, honestly I was worried as the vast majority of people running larger singles that I have seen have been like the AFE or even AEM brands. So that is why I got to pondering this. But being that you are laying down that power...then I am not going to worry about that and cross that off the list.

Thanks again for the assistance.

no outerwears for me. the sticker on the filter says 07 and was on the truck when i bought. looks new, so i don't see what good the outerwear will do.
