VGT adapter

I did a thread before about swapping in a VGT into my 24v. Since no one wants to buy my 3 piece manifold that is currently on there, is there an adapter that i can use to bolt the VGT to it? How much more modifying oil lines, intercooler boots, etc will i have to do since i wont use a third gen manifold?

You will have to run coolant lines to the turbo as well.

coolant lines to the turbo? Im going to be running a he351v. Not sure what your talking about :humm:

Off of a 2007.5 and up 6.7L cummins right?

vcustoms86 06-09-2011 01:09 PM

yes

They are a watercooled turbo. Did you not get the water lines when you bought the turbo. So you will have to plumb into the coolant system so you can make sure the turbo stays cool.

Ok i just went and looked at my '07 and what line is the coolant line if its watercooled? In the last thread i did no one said anything about the coolant lines. Diesel power didnt either.

There is only one line i see that could be a coolant line on top. So far, all ive seen online is that they have it to cool the electronics. Some people are doing this, some arent since they are running a turbo timer.

is your 07 a 6.7L. The one coolant line sits on top of the turbo and runs up to one of the lines running to the heater core. When we do silver series turbos from II on 6.7L's they send us coolant block off plugs to block the lines off.

There is the one by the oil supply on top and one on the bottom right by the oil return. The electronics are cooled from air passing over

if my 07 wasnt a 6.7, why would have gone out to look?

yes there is coolant going to it mostly for the electronics on the turbo, as for adapters they sell some on ebay. i just took the exhaust housing off, drilled the bolt holes bigger and installed a pipe plug in them, then machined the surface flat.
after that you take the t3 flange and drill new holes, the inside of the housing will need to have some clearancing as it overlaps in some places, not a huge issue.
then iirc the bottom rearmost stud will have to come off of the turbo into the manifold so you will have to modify the casting to allow for it to come through.
as for the intercooler they sell intercooler boots on here to just hook it right up, they are all the same the he351cw and the he351ve hook up the same, just have to reclock the compressor housing a bit.
the downpipe is a little different, they sell adapters to go from the 351ve flange to an hx40 style flange thats what i used.
