What exhaust system?

I am in the market for a new exhaust system and am not sure what to get. I have a 98.5 dodge cummins with and AFE air intake, and a diablo power puck. I would like to stay away from stacks. Let me know please I could use the help.

I found by MBRP very easy to install, and didn't have much drone in the cab. A significant reduction in drone compared to the 3.5" straight pipe that was on the truck.

if your looking cheap diamond eye is dirt cheap. but if your looking for best qualitiy silverline. everyon has their own opinion on them but i had the 6 inch bully dog on mine before i went to stacks and it sounded great but i have installed several silverline kits and on dodges i think they sound the best. if you were closer i would say come by the shop and i would hook you up with the bully dog kit i just pulled of mine.

I had an MBRP 5" Turbo back system and it was easy to install and sounded great!

Thanks

Thanks for the help guys, one more question. What diameter should I go with? and what is the difference?

4" is all you NEED, but 5" offers a different sound. Really, it depends what you like. YouTube has some videos of 4" and 5". I went 5", as part of my "Do it right once" attitude. I'll never have to go larger, and since I already had 5", it flanged right up to the 5" outlet on my S400.

5" in my opinion sounds better! its not needed but looked and sounded great! now i have stacks

The general rule of thumb I've heard about exhaust size is no bigger than 4 inch unless your aking 450hp or more because of back pressure. Stacks you can do because the bends cause back pressure. Not sure how true it is but I'm happy with my 4 inch.

I got the 4inch flopro kit from tony at mightydiesel without a muffer and it was easy to install and sounds great, it actually was more work getting the old exhaust out for me than it was to put the new set on. I chose to get it from tony because everything my truck has on it I've got from him and he's been awesome to deal with and whenever I had a question he explained and walked me through everything and the price for the exhaust from him was good and even if I paid a couple bucks more the customer service was worth it.

Re: What exhaust system?

5" is good for that extra deep exhaust tone. You will not lose power going with 5"

What exhaust system?

I second the 5" expandit kits. I have installed one on both my trucks.

I was told the Turbo was enough backpressure for these engines so I bought a 5in Expandit kit for both my 01's. I ended up selling one of the kits to a friend and installed 5in stacks, part of me wishes I didn't do that but I can actually race now without a pipe facing up on exhaust.

mill3041 05-15-2011 08:18 PM

Thanks

A lot of good info thanks. One last thing, whats the diff between a delete and a muffler besides sound? Is there any hp gain or is it mainly a diff in sound?

01quadcab 05-15-2011 11:56 PM

sound and extra drone in cab with no muffler

Thanks for all the info. I ended up going with the 5" expandit kit. Installed well and helped a bit. Next purchase will be gauges. Anyone know of a decent cheaper set up for gauges?

lil'smokey 06-01-2011 07:43 PM

Glowshift is my bet on the right bang for the buck! The look great, their kit fits pretty well and the option to change color on the fly is a nice addition:tu: Only thing I wasnt impressed with was the fitment of my pillar speaker on the aftermarket cover.
