94 to 98 trucks
 

This i a follow up on my previous post about the 94 to 98 trucks,i read on one these posts
that 98.5 to 2002 trucks have less electronics then the newer trucks.
What i am trying to stay away from is what i have with my 95psd which if i have to replace just the injectors i can spend up to $325.00 for each one plus installing them,plus all the other
problems with the electronics that go along with them.
Also does anyone know the HP&TORGUE of 98.5 to 02 trucks,thanks

be more specific. the pre 98.5 has much less electronics. but simular truck besides fuel system and computer. the injectors get expensive when you get to 2003. common rail injectors. Are you asking which truck is better?

you are there. many will chime in but you have to decide if you want to have the cheapest hourspower, the most reliable, the most drivable, the best puller, or just cheap!

Hi, what i would like to end up with a truck that has more HP&TQ then the 95psd i have now.
I understand that it will not take too much work or money to get up to 150hp out of a Cummins diesel,and if i can get into a newer truck with less miles so much the better
Now that remains to do keep researching which truck is best,reliable,more power then the 95psd,and will be the best for my firewood hauler the reason for a 3500 series truck,thanks

for reliablility and power, 94-98 12 valve cummins, all mechanical, easy to make power with, but its all mechanical. injectors range from 300 for the entire set to 1200+ for full out race only injectors. Plus you can fine tune the injection pumps but you need to be handy with a set of hand tools. But one you turn it up, youre stuck with the power all the time.

If you want power and the ability to go back closer to stock when you dont want the power, a 98.5-01 24 valve is the way to go. Granted the injection pumps are the limiting factor in these trucks, just make sure you have a good supply of fuel to it via a air dog or fass system and itll be OK. These yr trucks have all sorts of boxes and tuners that allow you to gain anywhere from 25-200 hp and gobs of torque. Injectors for these are also relatively cheap, roughly the same price range as the 12vs, 300-1200+ a set depending on brand and power level.

03s and newer can make power very quickly but it is much more expensive to do such. youre looking at 1200+ just to start on injectors. Boxes range close to 1000 bucks and then some. But they can make some insane numbers relatively easily.

Personally, I'd get a 97/98 12 valve 5 spd. Best of both reliability and power. and theres a lot of aftermarket support for the P-7100 injection pumps. the 5spds are pretty tough just depends on how hard you beat on it and what clutch and power youre running

Hi, DUKE BOY 318, My kid and i are leaning more to the 98 to 02 trucks as they appear to be a
better choice as if i remember the ads when they came that they made quite a bit more power
is there thread somewhere that will give me rundown on what each puts out,also looking at maybe WVO checked it out yrs ago just need to get back into it,thanks

since your wanting to run wvo, imo, i would go with a 12v. i know people running wvo in a 24v, but they have also swapped IP a couple times.

imo, the most dependable is the 12v. ive had both motors in the same truck.

the 12v motor stock laid down 150hp (the motor was rated at 160 which would be a 94-95 auto) same motor, minus the fuel plate laid down 281hp and 700+ tq

the 12v had 5 differnt hp ratings over the span of the 94-98 models

94-95
auto was rated at 160 hp
manual was rated at 175 hp

96-98
auto was rated at 180 hp
manual was rated at 215 hp
california manual was rated at 180 hp

the thing that makes the 12v more reliable is the fact its all mechanical.

the price to make more power is very cheap. in just the motor on my green truck, i have less than 700 dollars in it to make 425 hp. 700 made me 275hp. no other engine can make that kinda power for that lil of money.

the price of turbos, transsmissions, clutches will all be the same or very close to the same price between all 94-07 trucks

the gauges, exhausts, intakes will also be pretty close to the same price for any year model

the thing about the electronics is the fact that you start out with more power, more options, and the ability to change power with out have to pop the hood. hope this helps :tu:
