he341 turbo swap

i didnt see no treads for this but i just bought a he341 turbo for my 2001 cummins. the turbo is out of a 03 dodge. will a 03 manifold fit on my engine to fit thagt turbo bc i guess they mounted there turbos different. its still a 5.9 i would believe it would fit i just dont want to put out all that money and it doesnt. the only pronlem is the manifold i can do the rest its all easy.

I wouldnt see a problem using that turbo on your manifold. I could be wrong but there are a few people who put 2nd gen manifolds on their common rail cummins and it seem to work well. I would think the only issue would be with the stock units are prone to cracking, thats why people upgrade to two and three peice manifolds to help with the expanding and contracting from heating up and cooling down.

i was looking in gettin a manifold. i found the turbo used and cheap bc my hx35 kind of got destroyed on my trip to maryland and back towing my buddies car. i pushed it doing about 80mph pushing almost 20psi the whole time haha i wasnt too nice to it so it let me know. as far as i know it has 210k on it, gives me a reason to go better. my exhaust flange on the he341 turbo is in a different spot where the he341 the exhaust goes down into the turbo and the 01 hx35 it goes up in the turbo. the 03 and up 5.9 should fit them im guessing from what you said then worth a shot im desprate to get it in i have no truck and im loosing my ego little by little every waking day haha

dam haha i wasnt thinking last night my brain is shot right now i need more sleep. and yes i read up on the 3rd gen people putting the 2nd gen manifold on. also read on this guy taking his 01 5.9 engine and putting a 05 or it was a 06 head on. its cappable to withstand more power or make more. then i read up on a guy mechining his own intake manifold cover that has a longer neck so it get more air flow to 1,5,and6 selling kit for $230 works like the banks ram air intake

Re: he341 turbo swap

Yep the he341's and 351's bolt right in the 351ve turbo is the one that doesn't. You will have to modify the intercooler tube to work with the newer compressor outlet. Or many vendors on here he'll the piece you need for somewhere around 100 bucks iirc. And the intake you are talking about im fairly sure is the plate that goes under the inlet and grid heater moves it up a bit to slow better airflow to the outer cilinders I can't remember the name of it off of the top of my head but im sure someone on here does lol

i just read from a post and they say block off the waste gate, anyone know why i figured you would need it. or they could be talkin g about an aftermarket $600 that i dont want to get right now.

Re: he341 turbo swap

On a 341 probably not a good idea to block off the wastegate it has a very small housing on it. I would just buy a boost elbow for an hx35 and drill and tap your compressor housing to accept it and there ya go

Dieselautopower.com makes a kit a down pipe and intake scilicone to go from the intake side on the turbo to the intercooler so I bought that bc I don't have time to make one still waiting on it will see when it gets in
