Boost Elbow
Ok, i just installed an adjustable boost elbow this morning, and was expecting to see a lot more boost, but i got nothing:argh: It doesn't matter if the adjustment screw is tightened all the way or backed all the way out, im only getting 22-24 lbs of boost... Am i doing something wrong? What should i check, and what kind of boost should i be seeing???
Thanks Guys |
what did you have before you installed the elbow? do you have a leak somewhere?
Re: Boost Elbow
Is your truck stock?
Luke |
Pinch off the wastegate hose and go for a rip. See if you cant make more boost. If you can't, thats all your truck has.
I was already boosting 22-24 before i added the elbow
And yes its fairly stock, fass and a power puck thats it... |
If your making the same boost as before there may be a wastegate issue. The linkage to the waste gate may not be adjusted tight enough, and is always open a little. It's a possibility.

Re: Boost Elbow
He may not have enough fuel to increase boost.
Luke |
i put the elbow on my pickup and 20 is max for me normal driving towing i can push it up 28 and thats with stock fueling im thinking of plugging my wastegate hose just to see if i get any difference
So it shud boost more with my SDX 100's once i install them that is
Correct, boost is directly related to fuel. The difference between stock and my 65's was 7psi more boost.
yeah, not enough fuel. also, on the dyno we messed with the boost elbow, on a stock truck, the boost elbow made 40 less hp then it did with the stock elbow, now with a modded truck running a box, we saw a gain of 25 hp, just food for thought :tu:
Thx for all the input! I'll let yall kno what kind of boost im making with the injectors:tu:
Does a power puck have a boost fooler programmed in?
I have no clue... It was on the truck when i purchased it. I really want to invest in a edge comp but money is a little tight these days:dang:
I know my superchips flashpaq doesn't and so I plugged my waste gate and put a BD boost fooler on it. It used to smoke quite a bit when i got on it and now its barely noticeable and the power difference is noticeable too
What does the boost fooler do? and where does it go?
It limits the signal being sent to the ECM. At 23 PSI boost, i believe, the ECM will pull fuel back due to a "over boost", according to it. The fooler goes in series between your MAP sensor and engine harness.

My truck didnt make much boost... Then i clamped off the waste gate and added a Quad ADR... Then it made 40psi and really pissed of my head bolts! :argh: |
I put a turnbuckle on mine, makes 35 psi with what is in my signature. But now wonder if need to be concerned with head bolts. If so, what would be safe psi, I can limit it with Ejw
You can limit boost with the EJWA. Head bolts fail at different boost pressures. Mine's been OK with 57psi, others come undone at 45.
Boost limit in EJWA is currently 50. I think ill make it 40 or 35?
I'd try 30, and make sure it does pull you out of fuel when it reaches 30. Then set it to 37, or 38.
Sounds good, Thanks RA.
You need a boost fooler, power puck does not have one. adrenaline, ejwa both have one. The computer will only allow like 24-25psi and it will defuel the truck to stay there. You should be good to run about 33psi with an hy and 35psi with an hx. After that you'll be pushing hot air.
And RAWilliams is right, 40-45lbs is all I'd run before studs... Although some retorque the stock head bolts and run more.. I think it is a risk. |
He has a EWJA, and already stated he makes 35PSI.

i have a 99 2500 with a edge box and 4" MBRP exhaust and i can hit 35LBS of boost everyday when i punch it?

adjustable boost elbow
I would recommend a programmer in addition to the elbow. I use a Superchips on Tow setting. I bought my boost elbow at www.boostelbows.com and I couldn't be happier. They will pre-adjust it for whatever gain you want. I got mine adjusted for a 7 psi gain ('03 2500) and went from 23 psi to 30 psi. It came with the thread sealant on it so it was an easy install. Took less than 10 minutes and I was good to go.

turbo elbows?
hey guys thinking about getting a turbo elbow and putting it onto my cummins just wondering what kind of power gain i will get out of this. i have 90hp injectors, cold air, strait piped, smarty programer, and new lift pump. with all this will it have enough fuel to air ratio to notice a difference? currently no boost gauge but planning on installing one
I don't know if you feel a difference, but you may see a difference. EGT's will likely lower, boost increase, and a reduction in smoke. A Dyno or running the 1/4 mile will show a power increase if there is one.
