Needing HX-40 Info.

ECSB-2500-24V-2WD-Auto

I'm fairly new to diesels but I've done a little research here lately and I think I'm gonna get a few things, one being an HX-40 Turbo.

I just want you more experienced guys opinons on anything I should need to know when buying a Turbo. Should it be any specific Model: HX40, HX40W etc.?

Would a Divided Housing or Open Housing be better for spool up?

Anything else I might need to know?

Thanks,

I forgot to post that my HP goals are a Solid 550. I think I'd be satisfied with that. I got something else if I wanna go Faster :)

i am going to get and hx40 hybrid for $400 brand new and it has a harden shaft to. the hx40 has a weak shaft. but if you get and hx40 make sure it is a 60/60/16 because some of the hx40 are the same as your hx35. or you could get a 3rd gen turbo they work good to and are 60/60/9. what are you r mods on your truck and hx40 might not be good for your setup. i am shooting for 400hp tow rig.

At the moment she's all stock. I plan on getting the obvious: AirDog, Gauges and a Smarty.

I'm really not wanting to go all out with the truck as it's my DD. I rarely pull a trailer or anything so I'm not as much worried about that. I just want a Nice Gain in Power so I can keep up with some of the guys around here :)

The most serious thing I will probably do to this truck is up the Injectors to 150 Sticks and swap the Turbo.

On a vp powered truck you have to tap the pump wire to get more then 65 hp over stock gain. The smarty is a great programmer to stack with but as a stand alone it's not that good on our trucks, on a 3rd gen it's an animal. I would suggest an edge or tst or even a quad. Which ever you choose it needs to tap the pump wire to get the most hp possible. Just an FYI.

I run a Piers Diesel Research HX40 60/65/16 and mine does have a wastegate. Is a great turbo with all the necessary upgrades to make it reliable. Has quick spool and decent top end.

I'm thinking you should be thinking lift pump, gauges, and programmer before getting too excited about a HX40. Just my $0.02.:tu:

100% agree on the lift pump and a Fuel Pressure gauge as well!

I forgot to state in my OP that I want a Solid 550HP. Will this be a good enough Turbo to get me there?

ltr450 12-16-2010 06:56 PM

hx40 550hp no

What are the Limits of the HX40?
What Turbo would get me to my HP Goal?
