CRANKCASE BOTTLE RELOCATOR KIT

HEY anyone got that 88-02 Dodge 5.9L Cummins CrankCase Breather Relocation Kit from Peak Diesel Performance installed on their 01' im trying to figure out a good place to install it any suggestions ??? :humm:

Red_Rattler 12-07-2010 05:33 PM

Make your own... Or do what I did on my old 2000. Take the POS bottle off and get a longer hose and be done with it.

GuyWithA24Valve 12-07-2010 05:35 PM

I agree with Red Rattler.

I just got rid of the bottle and extended my hose down with about a foot and a half of heater hose.

If you relocate the bottle somewhere under the hood, it's still going to make a mess

johnkid 12-08-2010 12:44 PM

true easy fix well the bottle i got is far far better then the oem catch bottle i already bought it thought id give it a shot got it off puredieselpowers site , twice the size of the oem so im stuck trying to figure where to mount it :humm:

01cummins13 12-08-2010 12:56 PM

well when you figure it all out and get it set up be sure to let us know how you like it!

derek7217 12-09-2010 08:57 PM

i just bought a cummins what is it you guys are talking about is it a catch can for blowby or what????

RAW 12-09-2010 09:55 PM

Thats exactly what it is, sometimes known as the "slobber can".

derek7217 12-09-2010 10:09 PM

u see mine doesnt have that i dont think and there is oil all over the front of my engine i was thiking of making the hose longer and running it over the engine and to somewhere at the back of the pickup such as between the cab and box and capping it with a small breather of filter what do you guys think of that will it work or will i run into any problems with this!!!

RAW 12-09-2010 10:13 PM

Probably best to run it straight down and be done with it. When you add horizontal hose, it increases the probability of getting plugged up.

Farmboy 2.0 12-09-2010 10:18 PM

I agree with RAW. I would just run it straight down.... i need to do mine this winter while its all torn down and outta commission

derek7217 12-09-2010 10:23 PM

what i dont want is to have oil all over my pickup on the bottom or anywhere period it drives me crazy i want to find a way for it to go somewhere and not trash the front of my engine with oil any suggestions on how to do it would be great im open to any ideas and one more questin i dont know alot about alll this so im going to ask what would happen if i just plugged the tube and left it like that would it hurt anything and is there anyway to get rid of blowby thank you

Red_Rattler 12-09-2010 10:24 PM

The only reason it drips and fills up because it's catching the vapor... Like steam turning back into water. If it vents out as a gas with nothing to contain it your golden... As for mounting it, how much hose do you have to play with?

derek7217 12-09-2010 10:28 PM

i can get as much hose as i need why what you thinking

That would be a bad idea because that breather is what vents pressure out of the crankcase. And all engines will vent oily air into the atomosphere ours vent it to the front of the engine, while fords and duramaxes vent it back into the air intake and back into the engine which is retarded and why they do the pcv re routes

RAW 12-09-2010 10:48 PM

Increase crankcase pressure, and something will let go to relieve the pressure. Could be a rocker arm cover gasket, could be a crank seal.

Whiteknight24v 12-13-2011 01:51 PM

Heres how I did mine, i still need to adjust it but as is it works fine. No more armpit smell no leaks and it fits under my hood. Now stock hood people might need to modify their shroud a little bit more than me but thats not hard. Let me know how it goes!

That looks real nice how much did that cost cause it would be nice to get one and I like your oil fill cap.:tu:

Whiteknight24v 12-14-2011 08:08 AM

Yall are going to laugh at me but i paid 199 for the kit off of cumminsperformanceparts.com. They have alot of neat stuff there and they ship quick and im impatient. You can also get the oil fill cap there as well for 75

johnkid 05-23-2012 03:59 PM

after a year of having that Peak Diesel Performance relocater catch bottle its been workin good but some how that oily air finds its way to mess up the moroso filter that it comes with i would say its not a complete waste of money plus it looks cool another conversational piece on the cummins haha if you have to park in driveways alot or have one its worth it id say

Look on summit, they have bungs to weld into the exhaust and it creates a vaccum, pulling the gasses out and the hot exhauast gases burn up the oil vapor. When i had my 6.9 I ran one of these setups, with a Goldenrod fuel/water seperator housing in between engine and exhaust, minus filter and filled up with steel wool. Caught alot of the oil, and the vaccum to suck out the gasses is beneficial to the engine. Plus the goldenrod housing is clear to see oil level.

Farmboy 2.0 05-30-2012 09:48 AM

I have one just like this but without the chrome breather on the top. And I just welded it into my downpipe at a 45. Seems to do a really good job so far.

Have either of you two put a vacuum gauge on to see if its actually pulling from the VC? I've often wondered how well those setups worked, but can never find someone who's tested it after installing it. The normal mechanical pumps will pull between 8-15 inches. Any more and you run into oiling issues IIRC (its been a LONG time since I've had my hands on one of these).

94CTD 05-31-2012 07:55 AM

I never did, and sold my 6.9 3 years ago to pay for college, and every day regret it. But with the truck running you could see the gasses flowing through the filter housing.

thesmellycowboy 06-01-2012 04:57 AM

i saw a setup with breathers on the valve covers on a 12v. seems like a good idea to let out the gasses and not the oil or at least as much oil.

anyone make there own valve cover breathers - Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum

i think i am going to try this setup ill post up how it works

UglyTruck 06-04-2012 08:27 AM

Here is a link to an alternate way to route it. it also gives a good reason to reroute it if you do any steep hill descents. I did mine with heater hose however, not PVC. Mopar1973Man's Dodge Cummins Articles - Crankcase Vent Modification

Only issue with heater hose is diesel oil causes it to break down. Depending on how bad it breaks down, could stop up the hose. Then it pushes out a crankshaft seal.

thesmellycowboy 06-07-2012 12:14 AM

what kind of hose would be better in that setup? im trying to find something of the sort to use with my valve cover breather setup. i dont really want to buy a ton of those little filters. 9.99 a piece is retarded if you ask me. so i figure i can route them all together and use 1 filter. thought about using all hard lines but i think it would make pulling the valve covers a pita not to mention the alignment of all of them.

marcbailey83 06-07-2012 01:25 AM

Getting rid of mine this weekend. Thanks for reminding me:tu::tu:

thesmellycowboy 06-07-2012 02:23 AM

what are you getting rid of?

davidyack 06-07-2012 08:13 AM

I just redid mine. I put 2 of the old style push in valve cover breathers in the valve cover. Used silicone on the grommets so no leaks. Ran all this to an ebay aluminum catch can. I used the pushlock an fuel hose because i had about 10 feet. I put the can on its side and put 2 of the clamp on motorcyle carb filters on the top. Has a clear plastic tube to see oil level and a drain on the bottom. Also ran a hose from the front cover vent up to it and sealed the plastic case to the front cover. Also loosely filled the catch can with course steel wool to keep the filters cleanish.
