Getting A New Turbo SOON, But Is It The Right One?

Well I can get a really good deal on a BD Super B Special, but is it the right one for me? I don't tow, but I do daily drive this truck. Do I have enough fuel to spool it? I have a Comp and 150hp injectors. What do yall think? Also if you don't think I should go with this turbo what do you recommend?

Super Dave.............this sounds like a hell of a combo to me..I think it would be great

we have alot better turbo gurus on this site than me so maybe we can get some more input

My buddy just put down over 1000 hp with a silver bullet.

Im still trying to get a handle on turbo combinations.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 11-13-2007 09:41 PM

The Super B Special is good for 550-625HP range I don't think your going to have enough fuel for that Beast.

Ive got a super b on my 12v and its sweet.

I have 150 hp sticks and an edge juice w/ att and I wouldnt have a problem. I think I will be able to spool a special OK but I have an HRVP too. Let me know how you like it that is the charger I am thinking about going to.

SuperDave4x4 11-14-2007 09:11 AM

So some say I'll be fine while others say no....

Well I will be upgrading my injectors to 200s sometime in the future, so I need to add that to the equation also.

Anybody else have any input?

DONT go HUGE
get a 62 and then you can use it as a top turbo later on down the road for twins! :U:

2141pete 11-14-2007 08:32 PM

I went with the 62/12 in prep to go with twins and ended up changing my mind. You can make good power on a single. BUT I'm not going for the 700's in HP either lol

This is a great idea, If your Not Looking for a All Out Power Making Dyno truck , a large single proably wont meet the bill! Now BD's Super B Special is a great spooling and high quality charger, But if your going to daily drive or tow, I would feel it would be too big! 200 HP Sticks will do a great job with this charger but it would be VERY Smokey until spool!

Ahhh heck what am i talking about, I daily drive my 66 with 8's :w2:
:hot:

SuperDave4x4 11-14-2007 09:44 PM

Well I think I'm going to get it. Like I said I don't tow. If I have problems spooling it what would be a good tuner to help it spool? Smarty?

Diesel Nut 11-14-2007 11:55 PM

The special is a pretty big turbo. You have a decent amount of fueling, if its a little too laggy a SMarty will help. The Special should spool ok with what you have. its set up to spool well and still flow. I think you will be happy with it.

I guess a qualifying question is what settings do you normally drive on? If you roll around on 1x1, it might not want to spool too well. . . . . .

SuperDave4x4 11-15-2007 12:25 PM

I will have my comp set on what ever will spool it the best and keep smoke to a minimum while in traffic. What setting do you reccommend? 3x3 or maybe 4x2? At what RPM do yall think it will start spooling? 1800, 2000?

Thanks!

Woligator 11-19-2007 07:23 PM

if its start spooling at 1800-2000rpm it will be crap to run,
i mean how much time u really spend up there?
while normaly driving i shift around 2100rpm and cruise at 1800

id say get a smaller turbo else u need to run WOT to appreciate this turbo

even 200stick and smarty wont make it spool much faster ,u need exaust flow to get this thing running and u must get high in the RPM to do that else u got nitrous and hit the button everytime u want it to spool :booo:

Razutak 11-19-2007 07:40 PM

Idk id have to say go ahead and buy it. With my setup once i get my head o-ringed and studded that
is the turbo im going to be running. I get alot of my major work done at Mikes Custom Trucks by
where i live and he told me with the setup i have if i put anthing smaller than the BD special id
be wanting to replace it after i had another mod done.

SuperDave4x4 11-20-2007 06:34 PM

Well it's on the way. I talked to Pat at BD and he said spool would come on at 1700 rpms. I guess by this time next week it'll be on the truck.

2141pete 11-20-2007 07:05 PM

Good to hear you got it. Tell me how it works I am still on the fence about what to do. I am starting to lean towards the BD twins.
