Smarty or bigger turbo?
Im getting a power puck and im wondering what will give me more bang for my buck, Stack the puck with a smarty or upgrade to a hx 40?
|
I guess it depends what in your truck now. If you have a HX35 and pinch off the wastegate hose, in should handle the Puck. If you stacking a puck and Smarty you may need a different turbo. A little more information in your signature would help us out.

Re: Smarty or bigger turbo?
If you upgrade turbos I would get a 62mm.

Thats all I got. When the power puck gets here Ill have that too. Im looking at a hx40w for 300 right now. Any suggestions on a better turbo for the price? I can find lots of them without wastgates but thats the onle one with it for that price.

Hawk...what transmission? any upgrades to it? 3 inch exhaust into 5 inch stack? more info needed...
:argh: |
OH! :) I didnt know that was important. Its an auto 2wd and the stack is a 4 to 5 with a 6 inch tip. And it has a flow through muffler. 278k miles.

gauges like fuel pressure?
|
No guages yet either. Im still deciding what kind I want.
|
Do you have an aftermarket lift pump on it or do you just have the stocker?
|
Im looking at the Raptor 100 for a lift pump but its stock.
|
You definitely better get at least that and get a fuel pressure gauge before you really start rodding on it with the programmer.
My Superchips flashpaq took out 2 stock lift pumps over 15,000 miles |
Oh crap! Ya ill do that. Hey one other thing all theres turbos I look at use a v band elbow. How do I make it fit my truck?
|
Re: Smarty or bigger turbo?
Most aftermarket turbos will require an HX40 style down pipe.

1. gauges 2. lift pump 3. trans upgrades 4. programmers etc... you can run programmers without trans upgrades as long as you dont get too wild. you could also look into a programmer that has a monitor with gauges built in too:c:
|
What kinda trans upgrades do I need?
|
If you can, get a full SunCoast rebuild. They run big money but are really strong.
The Torque Converter is a weak link and upgrading to a tripple billet would be a good idea. Also a shift kit to increase line pressure so the clutchs clamp tighter. |
