Belt Drive Lift Pump
 

Think I finally got the belt drive lift pump dialed in on the truck. Still waitin to see the long term performance but so far it's lookin good.

It took a long time to get all the air out of the system and that was makin me nervous because the pressure was fluctuating so much. It would go from 21psi to 0psi and i couldn't figure out why. I finally just drove it regardless of the pressure and a few miles down the road it leveled out. At idle it holds steady at 10psi and the higher the RPM's go the more fuel it pumps so at full throttle I am running about 16psi. it's is all adjustable with a bypass regulator. Just set the regulator at what ever pressure you want it to run.

Here in the next few weeks I should be hauling some hay that will weight the truck down with 20,000 pounds worth for a 40 mile trip. I figure that will be the true test of how it's gonna do. At this point though I will call it a very good system. No noise, no electric motor to go bad, no internal bypass to hang up and best of all it adjust fuel pressure to meet engine needs. The only thing that really can go wrong with the pump is to break a belt. I will keep a spare with me and this would be a 5 minute fix to replace. It also still runs an electrical pump though with a pressure swtich that will automatically turn it on if it ever drops below 8psi so you wouldn't need to even fix the belt right away if you didn't want to stop. You can use any pump you want on it, it will only run a few seconds each time you start the truck assuming you don't have any problems. Right now I'm not even running an electric pump and the truck starts just fine. Just takes about 20 seconds to build pressure when you start it up.

They quit making the RASP. The MITUSA is the updated version of it sold and prototype tested by the same group of the most prominent Cummins racers and builders out there. I was planning on the MITUSA but my kid beat me to it and bought me one for my birthday from Glacier Diesel. Appears to be all the same equipment and design though.

Just an update on this MITUSA/Belt Drive Lift Pump. I always hate recommending somethin to quick cause you never know the long term results. This thing has now been officially tried and tested for about every kind of use. It's pulled heavy loads, been on long haul highway trips, through the heat of summer, the cold of winter and just a little bit of off road time. I've haven't found anything yet that has affected my fuel pressure at all, it has worked flawlessly. I have it set so that it idles at 12 psi and at full throttle it tops out at 18psi. I still don't have an electric pump attached to the system but so far have not needed it either. Even changing filters and not filling the canister this thing fires off within a couple cranks. When I start it up it is up to full pressure within 3 seconds every time. So someday I will install an electric backup pump just to have it, but I'm in no hurry.

So final word from me is I love this pump and give it the big :U:. The only other pump on the market I would even think about using would be the Airdog and if air removal is something you hold important that is the only way to go, but for me personally I can't see me ever going back to an electric motor pump.

This is where I got mine,it's been working good,never had any problem with it,except once I took the filter out of my transfer tank cause' of gelling,got some crap in the tank,plugged the bypass,just cleaned it out,no more trouble,15psi all the time

You might be able to find one cheaper,but that's the one I have,and I know it works,the owner is a good guy too.

Just wondering how the belt drive pump is working and where do I get one ? Could you help I have been through 4 lift pumps and 2 rebuilds on my vp44 injection pump only have 189,000 on the rig. Let me know Mike:argh:

I'm around 200,000 on this pump now and like you I went through thousand's of dollars of fuel system before I found this one and not another dime since then. I can't say enough good things about it.
