Welcome. :c:

What kind of supporting modifications have you done to your truck?

nmsucummins 10-16-2010 12:13 AM

i haven't done anything to it, its still a virgin as you might say.

Dr. Evil 10-16-2010 02:02 AM

Ah well....

You really want to start with a 4" or 5" exhaust (4" is plenty good enough), a free flowing air filter/intake (this is a debatable point to some people), and an upgraded lift pump. Putting and kind of fuelling box onto a truck with a stock lift pump is just begging to buy a $1200 injection pump. Also mandatory is a fuel pressure guage mounted in the cab so you can keep an eye on the fuel pressure at all times.

Some of the fueling boxes like the Quad Adrenaline and Edge Juice have built in guages. I prefer dedicated analogue guages to the digital versions.

Hope this helps. Grab a drink or two and spend some time reading here. There is tons of info.

Not many shops around your area. Is Nemesis Diesel Performance still around? They have droped off the radar! They are north west from you. :humm:
Any way like Dr. Evil said, some modifications are in order! And most of them are not that expensive for your truck. I wish I was able to give you to somebody local in your area? New Mexico is sort of Hard to keep info on. not many shops are current in information technology. I know you have a few in Santa Fe and Aburqurque just hard to pin them down!

Any way WELCOME! If you can wrench, plenty of bombers here that can help. There might be som NM Bombers near by? So do your research or ask questions just as you have done, If you can't find anyone local, we have plenty of venders that can help.

:welcome:
:hi:

I dont see anywhere where he asked for a referral to a shop.

nmsucummins, theres nothing hard about working on a diesel especially a Cummins engine.

nmsucummins 10-16-2010 12:23 PM

thanks alot guys:c:, and what exactly is a fuel pump? and are they expensive?

RAW 10-16-2010 02:55 PM

You have two fuel pumps. A low pressure lift or transfer pump (LP) that supplies fuel to the Injection pump. The IP (Injection Pump) is the high pressure pump. In your situation, you want to supply your IP with no less than 8PSI of fuel pressure at wide open throttle, and no more than 25PSI at idle. Keeping good pressure to your IP will keep it alive longer.

Not hard? as far as adding a flash tuner, or chip, exhaust, intake it is not hard when all your doing is changing parts! When you run into issues, and you don't know anything about DIESELS? A good truck can turn into a junker in a heart beat! you of all people should know! Rustin

Of course not. why must you cause Drama? :argh: I thought by adding a local shop he would know that if something is a miss on his attempt to bomb his truck! Professional Help is near by
Thread unhijacked, My apologies nmsucummins. Have Fun with your Truck!
