Wrong Turbo ?

I have an '01 auto and just started mod'ing it up. I've had the truck a few years but just finally got enough money for some toys. I put my Edge JWA on a few days ago and was going to plug the wastegate and it's not there. After doing some research on this site I found that I should have a HY 35. It appears to me that the previous owner somehow got an H1C on my truck. I have attached pics of my turbo for you to see. Now that I have the JWA I can see all my readings. I can only get 18 psi of boost and that's with the edge on 5 and me standing on it till the stock tranny starts to cry... If anyone can confirm my suspicions that would be great. What differences will this make on my truck bad or good ? Thanks for the help.

Look like a HY, but you should have an HX35 with wastegate with a hose to the actuator. The wastegate is set to 18 PSI.
How hot are the EGT's?

that does look like the old turbo off an early cummins

Thats not a h1c exhaust housing 21 or 18 cm. Looks a lot like the hx35/40 I just got for my truck (not saying thats what it is)

Well I figured out what is going on. I should have talked to my diesel mechanic neighbor to begin with. I do have an HX 35 but it has a non wastegate housing. Something like this he said he typically sees on John Deere power units. Not sure how it got on my truck...:humm:

I'd say be happy for it! Wit the Juice you have boost fooling, and all is good. I'm wondering how big the exh housing is.

Any JD part #'s on it? I've worked for Deere for the last 7 years.

I can only get a max of 18 psi of boost. That's what I'm seeing on my JWA. Cruising on the highway at around 70 mph it carries about 3 or 4 psi of boost and my EGT's are in the 600's. Is this normal? It is starting to get a little bit of play in it too so I may need a rebuild soon.

RAWilliams.. I didn't see any JD part #'s on it..

3 to 4 psi on the interstate at 70 is awesome especially if the egt's stay that cool, mileage should be great, on the 18psi of boost max is really weird, I don't have alot of opinions on that one

Keep in mind his EGT probe is post turbo, and not in the manifold.

bobcat67 10-16-2010 04:55 PM

oh nevermind my previous statement, that's running around 900 degrees which seems hot to me, have you tried different levels on the edge to see what psi gets to on them? I'd consider a different turbo possibly, i know it's way cheaper said than done, but just sounds weird to me
