Electric fans
What are the pros and cons with putting electric fans on my truck?
|
Pros: EVERYTHING
Cons: Initial cost and time to put it in. Looking to put some in myself. Check out BBD, they have a product that claims (and probably is) better than Flex-a-Lite, and is much less money. |
I've heard that there not good for towing or for trucks that idle alot. any truth behind that?
|
Depends on the CFM they put out. If your looking to gain mileage, not really gonna help when towing anyway.
|
I have heard that before. But what can pull more? 2 - 16" fans or one 22-24"? A 24V cummins uses about 15% of its cooling abilities when unloaded. Practically nothing. 6000CFM will do just fine.
|
So there better for trucks that idle alot?
|
IMO, they are better for everything.

i've been looking for a cheaper alternative to the flexalite.

Brice will take care of you,as he does everyone else. You may need a few of the fan controllers as well, if you want it to come on with A/C as well as temperature. Still, less than Flex

I had mine flex-a-lites on my truck for 2 years and are great.MPG have increase, spool time for the turbo:scare2:what spool time.If you idle alot you can set up a switch that you can have the fans on all the time of you can have it set up to have it shut off.Just did a trip 2 weeks ago to blowing rock,NC for dyno day and hand cal 22 MPG on the highway.
