Edge Juice w/Att A/C Vent mount mod

Hello,

My A-pillar for my Edge monitor started to become an eyesore to me. I also got tired of having a hat on my dash to try and provide some shade for the monitor. So after searching this site, I cam across a couple of times a picture of a monitor mounted into a vent section. So I used a heat gun, soldering iron, a dremel, and peices of the A-pillar mount as filler.

I only removed the bezel from the dash. The kick panel under the steering was only pulled back enough to route the cable. I pulled out the vent and used the dremel to remove the two tabs. As you look at the back side of the bezel there is a oval plastic peice that rest up against the vent to channel the air. I used the dremel to cut a section out of the side where the buttons on the edge are. l and used the heat gun to push it in so I could fit the edge into it. I only heated oine side to push it in and left the peice of the oval as a seat. I just ground on it until I got the angle that I wanted. I kept putting the edge in it to check the angle. I then heated the vent divider and sat the monitor into place so that the divider would have shape as well.
I used a peice of the A-pillar and ABS welded the back where there was a gap so that the monitor would be stable when pressing buttons. I also used peices of the pillar and the soldering iron to heat and weld up a backstrap for re-enforcement. I added a top and bottom lip on the vent divider to prevent the monitor from having up and down play. For that, I just used the soldering iron and kept adding peices of plastic and shaped it as I went.

I have it set up so that it is tilted slightly upward and is angled towards the driver side for ease of visibility. It feels more solid and secure than it did when it was velcroed to the A-pillar mount. I am happy with the set up and not worried that I gave up one vent. I did cut a thin peice of cardboard to cover the section of the vent where the edge sits. Only took about a day and a few ice cold beverages.

There were several times that I used the soldiering gun very close the edge monitor while it was in place. I am not responsible for anything that may happen if anyone wants to try this out. Just take your time and save the majority of the beverages for the after party once it is installed....LOL.

Looks good! I imagine it is rather solid there?

RA,

Yeah it is very solid. I just got so tired of seeing it sag from the velcro that it was attached too. Plus when some pullis up on my driver side it is not just sitting there advertising itself.:tu:

I've been thinking of ways to make it more solid. I've always found you have to hold the back of the monitor before pressing the buttons. Thanks!

I put a back strap and used the soldering iron to weld it in place. Then the heat gun to get it where I wanted it. It also adds the support behind the monitor as well.

Sup,

Thought I would follow up on this mod. I did this back in September and since then have had time to really pound the harball and prior to updating my headlights.....really hit some pot holes at night. Anyways, it has held up nicely and during the day time, it is easy to monitor. It is not a distractor at night either. When adjusting the settings, it is just as natural as chaging the radio station. No more having to use the left hand to make the adjustments like when it was in the pillar mount. Have the time I had to use two hands to ensure that I did not push it out of the pillar mount. This mod has proven to be solid and has yet to pop out on any occasion. I also added a couple more pictures.
