new pyro where to tap exhaust manifold?

I just bought a set of guages and figured I should get some info from the pros. what is the best place to mount the sender unit to the most accurate read from a pyro??

Lil Red Express 06-17-2010 11:07 PM

Where the turbo mounts to the manifold there is a center divider inside the manifold. drill and tap in the back half of that section. The back 3 cylinders run the hottest so that is the best place to put it. Is this as clear as mud for you?

crazycooter 06-17-2010 11:20 PM

that mud is so clear I can see right through it thanks.
Why do 456 run hotter than 123?

RAW 06-18-2010 07:38 AM

Because those 3 cylinders are further away from the air intake horn, and don't get as much air as 123, as the air has to travel further.

crazycooter 06-18-2010 09:26 AM

that makes sense, thanks

thebullet83 06-18-2010 06:23 PM

and coolant has picked up heat before it gets to the rear of the block

Thanks for the diagram DM. Thats exacly what i was hoping someone would post.:tu:

he needs to put grease on the drill bit to catch the shavings

Lil Red Express 06-18-2010 08:47 PM

I have used WD-40 with no problems.

RAW 06-18-2010 08:51 PM

I believe he is suggesting to use grease so it will grab all the metal fragments when you drill and tap. Therefore keeping them out of the turbo when you fire it up for the first time.

Lil Red Express 06-18-2010 09:01 PM

Ya i know what the grease is for. I have used wd for the same thing on several trucks. If you have some grease handy it works better but if you dont and have some wd or the like it will work just fine.

01quadcab 06-18-2010 10:43 PM

or leave the truck idling and drill and tap it. no shavings in manifold for sure just wear safety glasses

crazycooter 06-19-2010 10:08 AM

not sure if i would've come up with that one on my own, but it ought to work:tu:

Put a magnet near the bit, it will catch ALL the shavings.

Just my opinion, yours may vary.

mainman300 06-20-2010 12:14 AM

use grease and a mag

NadirPoint 06-20-2010 08:23 AM

No need for magnets, grease, running the engine or any of that BS. 99% of the drill/tap debris comes out the top, anything else goes harmlessly trhough the turbo within about 1 second after you start it up. Pull the intake hose to see if it's spinning, good to go.
