EGT'S safe or not!!
i live in florida and its getting to be about 85/90 degrees while toweing my comercial boat today on the turnpike running 80 mph my egts were at 1250-1320 depending on if it was pulling or coasting. i only have to drive that speed for about 15 mins from west palm to jupiter, my question is. is that temp to hot to run on my B.D SUPER B SPECIAL? i ran my truck tonight wide open through all the gears with everything turned up and i hit about 950 degrees max egt. i would like to keep it in the 3 diget range while toweing. im thinking of some water meth, or change my injectors to either smaller or some ddp 150's.this is my busy season and i will be toweing a 31 foot boat almost everyday. any help would be great!

i thought anything over 1200 degrees for any length of time you was hitting on the upper limit :humm:

in the 1/4 mile i can hit 2100 degrees water meth will give you a 2 to 300 degree drop but becareful you can quench it with to much you will know

okay question what about the 1200 degrees that anything above for so long melts alumnium like your pistons how do you get away with that :humm:

if you keep it above that for a long time yes you will begin to make your truck melt down, but the average time its there for its not going to hurt anything, just be sure to let your truck cool off before you just turn it off, invest in a turbo timer :tu:

yes get a cleaner injector and you will be happy

The DDP's are nice injectors, when my 80hp mystery injectors went bad, I got 125hp DDP's, I have lower egts, and less smoke with these, much cleaner

Don't be scared of 1300. I have a 1600* pyro and you know its hot when you lift your foot and it takes 6 seconds for the needle to fall past 1600*. These engines are rated and 1250 all day.

you can be pulling a hill towing and warm it up for a little bit but he needs to cool back down pretty quick. i have saw sled pullers get close to the 2000 mark. some make it some dont. melted pistons is kind of weird looking things.

you can do 1200...1100 was fine for me and he says they can withstand sustained runs at that....Quote, "they can run all day at 1100" I was worried cuz on my 99 I was used to 900-950 while towing. NCA |
just orderd a water meth kit for bot the trucks. got the snow performance stage 2. anybody on here running this? :tu:

How did that water meth kit help out? Im in the same exact situation, wondering if i should do new injectors and kick the jammer 150's, or do water meth and an exhaust manifold...?

i like it alot. i also ported and polished my head with bigger valves and a cam so i couldnt compare it from before. but with all that air now i can tow 100 mph+ and it dosent get over 1100. im ready to change out my pulce 150's with some ddp 200's i would try differnt injectors first unless you want the extra 50 h.p. from the water meth.

Good info... I bet I'll get close to 50 more horse anyway just switching to a quality injector too... It's between ddp150's and fireball 150's. If I do the fireballs I'll have money left over to do a 3 piece manifold also

ive heard nothing but good things about fireballs. and im in the same boat as far as injectors mine are just like jammers. there dirty smokey and hott

let me know if you get them. im keeping my options open on injectos its either ii 200s ddp200s or mach injectors. but i wouldnt mind saveing some money on an injector thats just as good :c:

I think Im Gonna Go with a little bigger turbo after I get my heads studded to run a little cooler on the EGTs Ive seen mine around 1500 a couple times just for a second or two I was really running the piss out of it Im pretty impressed with this SCT its pretty darn quick but hardly anysmoke, I got it on the Street tune from Innovative
