head gasket

Ok i have a problem with blowing head gaskets now...Anyone know of a good thing to do first i replaced the injection pump then about a week later i blew my head gasket. Ok got that fixed on monday and it blew again thursday. And i got the ARP headstuds put in when i got the head gasket replaced and like i said it blew again in 3 days. Can anyone give me some advice on what i should do or what would hold up. Im running 45-47 pounds of boost.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-28-2010 11:05 PM

You have to let the studs get a few heat cycles in them and a few retorques before pushing alot of Boost.

moparfreak74 03-28-2010 11:07 PM

ok so you think the stock head gasket will hold up to 47 pounds of boost?? and explain about the heat cycles i have been seeing it on here alot

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-28-2010 11:22 PM

You have to get the engine to running temp then let it cool off. Do this a few times and re-torque the studs. Id do this 2 or 3 times.

moparfreak74 03-28-2010 11:24 PM

but when you say retorque the studs do you mean go through and loosen then tighten or jus check them to 125? and also do you think that the stock cummins gasket will hold up to that much boost or will i have to go another route?

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-28-2010 11:25 PM

Did you have the Head and block checked for flatness?

SmokeN 12 ValvE 03-28-2010 11:27 PM

I would have the head decked

moparfreak74 03-28-2010 11:27 PM

yea the shop said they had the head checked for flatness they said the only thing they didnt do was magna flux the block i think thats what its called. But they said everything was good

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-28-2010 11:29 PM

They have to take any material off the head to make it flat?

moparfreak74 03-28-2010 11:30 PM

nope the only thing they had to do was something with the valves i cant quite remember what it was but they said they wont seatin right or something but that was it

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-28-2010 11:31 PM

They probably adjusted the Valves. A stock HG and Studs should hold 50+ boost.

moparfreak74 03-28-2010 11:35 PM

ok thanks for clearing that up with me they tried to tell me that it was too much power for it and that it wouldnt hold but idk what they did with it. I had to go back and check what was wrong cause it had a fuel leak when i got it back and come to find out they didnt have the connector tubes popped down in there good and they try to tell me idk what im talkin about haha. But thanks again im goin to try the few heat cycles once i get another head gasket on it. Should they be like in the same day or maybe a few days apart when i retorque them or how should i do that?

SmokeN 12 ValvE 03-28-2010 11:37 PM

Are you tightening them in the correct order?

moparfreak74 03-28-2010 11:40 PM

i actually didnt do the head studs the shop did it while they were doing the head gasket. But i know the order you are talkin about so whoever does my head gasket this time since i dont have the stuff here to do it. I will go back and retorque them or i will tell them to do it and watch lol and make sure its done right:tu:

how heavy is your right foot? i have the super B special and im feeding it alot more fuel. and im still on my original headgasket. no studs and im running 55+ psi.

moparfreak74 03-29-2010 10:03 AM

Its pretty heavy but i dont stay in it all the time i just play a little bit when i have the feeling too haha

LawnScum 03-29-2010 10:47 AM

haha. put some studs in it. and up the fuel. my special was so laggy when i ran smaller injectors and a single box. that turbo is sweet when you add the right amount of fuel to it :c:

moparfreak74 03-29-2010 10:09 PM

i got the studs in it. My special aint that laggy i mean it takes a min 2 spool but it really aint that bad. I have 2 quit blowin head gaskets b4 i do anything else

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

i have one more question when i retorque the studs after the heat cycles do i loosen them then torque them back down or just make sure that they are at 125 ft lbs??
