priming the vp44

I am installing an air dog this weekend. What would be the proper way of priming the system after I am done completed? Thank you.

Easiest way is to bump the starter once with the connection loose at the VP44 to eliminate most of the air in the lines, then tighten the connection once fuel comes out and bump the start once or twice more to get most of the rest of the air out. Then fire it up and wait until idle smooths out. Make sure to fill the water separator with fuel when assembling to facilitate the priming of the lift pump. :c:

Instructions say to bump the starter once... This will engage the 25 second lift pump run. I'm installing my AirDog 150 this weekend too.. Thats what im going to do. Then just crank her over. If you plug the fuel line quick enough i dont think it will drain the VP completely out... It was ok when i replaced my POS lift pump with another POS.
Are you dropping the tank or pulling the bed to install the draw straw?

Dont forget the instructions tell you to fill the PRE filter only with fuel to help prime the AirDog

:rocking:

I believe I am heading the route of dropping the tank. How about you? does everyone cut notches at the bottom of the straw or can you just cut a 45degree angle?

DieselWeasel 03-06-2010 07:20 AM

It seems to be the norm that everyone notches the straw. I plan on it too. If your going to drop the tank just make sure that u support it from ends like straps do. Then you won't have tank collapse. The plastic is pretty flexy. If it flexes straw may bottom out too high up.
I would like to pull bed because my tank is FULL. Not sure if I can. Didn't look into it, but my bed is fully rhino lined so bolts may be covered.

Well I planned on going either way, so I have a quater tank of diesel. Lol.
