crankcase evacuation system?
 

I have a 2001 Dodge pulling truck that ive went all out on. The block is line honed and every thing is balenced. Its bored .05 over for swelling and it's P-pumped. My problem is that i have blow by like crazy when i come off the track it makes you think theres a broken ring. but pulled the motor over the winter and all looks good. My question is would a crankcase evacuation system work. I know its a common thing on gas engines but ive never seen it on a diesel. Any help would be great thanks! :humm:

Is it needed though? If the engine is tight, but there is lots of blow by, what's it hurting?

Because it's building pressure in the crank case which robs you of power.

What people don't understand is that when you want to get everything you can out of an engine, if there's pressure in the crankcase (oil pan) and the pistons are on they're way DOWN, you're pushing them UP with that pressure!

Essentially, you're telling the engine to run BACKWARDS, but it's fighting that unwanted pressure every time an injector fires fuel into the cylinder!!

Thus: Positive crankcase pressure = decreased horsepower AND performance AND fuel mileage.

What kind of crank case evac are u using right now? I put a breather on the valve cover, and twin breathers out the tappet cover and that essentially eliminated my blow by.

I had thought about getting another big aluminum race car breather and putting it in the valve cover, but if that doesn't do the trick all I've accomplished is giving the engine another place to puke pan gasses AND oil!!

So, when I get my new 4" exhaust put on it in a couple weeks I'm going to install a pan vac setup on it. Summit sells a pair of them (for V-8's) for $55.00. Just search "pan vac" on their website. Install ONE of those on your exhaust downtupe and run a silicone hose back up the breather that comes with the kit - after you put the breather in your valve cover.

the pan vac doesn't work on a diesel I know a couple people that tried so don't waste your money.

If you are serious about puting a evac system on it, look at raycor, they make universal systems for every HP range. They are very well built. Imo unless you are an emissions geek, I soul save the money and just run a hose, and a breather.

Also there are blow by measurement devices out there, takes about 10 minutes to check vs. Pulling the engine down... they are quite accurate, if interested, contact your local Caterpillar dealer.
