absolutly.................not everyone has a multi meter or knows how to use one thats prolly why the instros says to use a test light, but if ya have the equipment and knowlege so much the better

thebullet83 01-01-2010 12:33 PM

don't even own a test light!

What is the stealth plate good for? Just a better connection between you (chip) and pump or does it help the pump by itself?

Jet A Fuel 01-12-2010 04:51 PM

Someone correct me if i am wrong but when the trucks were new this item could be removed prior to going in for warranty service at the dealer and put the old cover back on and they never know.

Extra Turn

So first and foremost, remove the APPS assembly, and there is your VP44

http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/2010/dscf0055qo.jpg

Remove the 5 screws with the supplied bit.

Install the Stealth plate, and as they say, tighten the 5 screws "snugly"

http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/8827/dscf0057w.jpg

This is where I did things a little different. The "destructions" say to use a test light to check for power at the Stealth Plate's probe. I never, EVER use a test light on ANY computer circuits. I believe they are for tail lights and such. I used my multi meter to see when power is tapped into, then added my extra half turn.

http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/6671/dscf0059a.jpg

Snipped the supplied probe from the Edge off, and soldered on eye-lit and heat shrink over the eye-lit and wire protector.

In my opinion, I believe every tapped VP44 should have one of these. No pre-twisting wires to install onto the outside wires of the VP44, and no doubt of a proper connection.

What do you mean by adding an extra turn?

To ensure proper penetration.....

RAW 01-17-2010 07:38 PM

The instructions say after power is located on the tapping pin to give an extra half turn on the screw. As is was said above, for proper penetration and connection.

Blackout_CTD 06-16-2010 08:42 PM

i might have misread something but i recall reading that the stealth plate actually increases HP and TQ. is this true?

RAW 06-16-2010 08:54 PM

It allows for the connection to be made at the VP44 from a performance product that adds fuel/timing, such as and Edge Juice. Without a fueling box, as in a superchip reprogrammer, "tapping" is not required. A stealth plate is a cleaner way to "tap" the pump without damaging any wires.

Thanks for the info. :tu: Im just about to do it on my truck.

There is no opinion! You mentioned it already. a test light does not belong into a mechanics toolbox any longer.:tu:

In germany the mechanic is now called mechatronic. It shows where the trend goes:
mechanic+electronic
Even the cheapest multimeter will be better than a damage caused by the very low internal resistance of a "test light".
It should be a standard item in everyones toolbox.
A Multimeter has a very high internal resistance compared with the to be tested parts, protecting them from expensive damage- but, avoid to measure amerage in automotive applications.
Either the amperage is way to high for your multimeter (eg: do not try to measure amperage on a battery, starter or alternator or you can damage a lot of things. Those applications do need an amp clamp!

So who makes these stealth plates and where does a person find one before I do this install of the zilla adr?

Diesel Dawgs Performance 01-11-2011 04:09 PM

BD makes them :tu:
