Stacking a Smarty

Hey anybody out there stacking a smarty on a timing only box, if so what are yall seeing performance wise, worth it? Or should i just go with a bigger chip?

lobsterman04 11-27-2009 03:35 PM

I tried it with my buddies smarty and my adrenaline on my truck. It was a very very small difference. but i did notice it...barely.

Depends on what your stacking the Smarty with.

BlackedOut02 11-28-2009 05:37 AM

a little sticky i did on another forum :tu: Chip Stacking?? Look Here!! - Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum

the smarty dose timing its self stacking it with just a timing box is pointless imo. it would be stacked with a fuel/timing box (on fuel only setting) or a fuel box (on timing or fuel/timing settings)

stack a smarty with a TST PM# COMP box and youll feel it in your pants. the TST PM3 COMP is nothing but fueling and a very hot box, 160 hp gain with the pm3 comp alone

Most guys have seen a loss in HP when anything is stacked with the Smarty.

BlackedOut02 11-28-2009 04:43 PM

you wont see a big gain (or even a loss) on the dyno. but like dukeboy said, you will feel it in your pants.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 11-28-2009 07:05 PM

We have seen 20-30hp lost when stacking a Smarty on a Comp.

This was on a Dyno.

BlackedOut02 11-28-2009 08:13 PM

is that the tst comp or edge comp?

Diesel Dawgs Performance 11-28-2009 10:10 PM

Edge Comp and Edge Drag Comp.

hua... i was jw.

i agree, the smarty is good for the track, and butt dyno. i have heard of of minimal power gain, and power loss. its like the smarty chokes the turbo out on the bottom end.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 11-29-2009 12:39 PM

I think the VP just runs out of fuel.

BlackedOut02 11-29-2009 02:13 PM

makes since, the smarty just falls on its face so hard after 2700rpm it hurts hp. also explanes why guys who run theirs on lower power levels get better results.

:pca1: I think iv got my answer but if it helps what im tryin to do is keep my chip i have now (the VanAakin) because i like it and iv never had a problem with it but its not ajustable and just not enough power :w2:

nate379 12-03-2009 04:03 AM

Yup. I lost ~50hp on the dyno when I added the Smarty to my TST box.

:scare2: well i dont want that; i think im gonna keep the VanAakin and put on SDX 120s
after i do air intake exahust and lift pump then worry about a bigger chip after a new turbo and clutch

Personally I think you will be better off with something else on the truck like edge or quadzilla. I agree with the before mentioning of the smarty causing the VP to run out of fuel. Because I know that on the 3rd gens the fuel pressure and everything is there with the CP3 and it will eat up all the fuel you throw at it cause there is the means to do it where the VP44 would probably fall short. It seems like you need a chip that will effectively fuel down low and continue to fuel almost on a lower level than something like the smarty that just pours the fuel.
