My KDP Fix Update

Just FYI for anybody out there in the same situation. This will give you some more info to go on.

Just to start off with. I finally pulled the front cover today after 200,000 and checked for the KDP problem. I did not have the updated cover but I got completely lucky. My pin was still completely in the hole, hadn't moved at all from factory. The manufacture info on my truck is the following; it was built in the Saltillo, Mexico plant with a build date of January 1999.

The TST tab kit I got from Nate at Cowboy Diesel worked great. Came complete with all the parts needed and instructions. The instructions were a little lacking for the new seal install itslef but other then that they were very detailed. The only thing that didn't match on the 99 model was that the instructions called for 10mm bolt's inside the housing where you install the tab and new bolt and my truck had 11mm bolts in there. The new bolt supplid with the tab kit had a 10mm head on it but the bolt was the same size on the threads, so no big deal.

I did install the tab just to be sure that the pin stays put. This is not an easy job by any means as far as gettin to everything but technically speaking it is do-able by most do it your selfers out there. Just take you time and follow each step.

As a forewarning. The instructions don't call for air tools but an impact ratchet would have made life much easier. I didn't have one handy so I used the ratchet and a hammer and it worked just fine. In particlular for the removal of the 4 Balancer bolts. I couldn't get the engine to lock up tight enough to hold it while I tried to remove them. I just used two ratchet's, one on the bolt I was trying to losen and one on another bolt to hold the wheel in place. On the last bolt I just used the hammer to break it lose.

Even though I found no problem's with this in my truck, I still feel better finally knowing and would suggest for everyone with a 99 to do it. Just in case.

Forgot to mention which TST kit works for the later models. Just happens the 89-93 and 99-02 use the same seal. So if you order the kit make sure to get the one for the 89-93 models.

Ah, complete balderdash my dear Doctor! I'll sell it before I get involved in all that. By the way, do the Powerstrokes have this problem? :su: J/K
