Hooked! NEXT UPGRADE

Well i have a 99 with an auto. In the past couple months i have installed gauges,:w2: K and N filter, 4 inch magnaflow exh and airdog 150 so now im ready to try and help out my tranny. Before i start adding power i want to do the tran so i dont smoke it but i dont know if i should try and save alot of money to buy a whole aftermarket one or if i can get away with upgrades to my stock one? If i can upgrade my stock tranny what do i need to do? By the way this is my daily driver and would like to do some sled pulling on the weekends. My goals for this truck longterm are to get it in the 500 hp range Thanks

Be advised on the K&N - talk to Dr. Evil on that subject... On other matters, the OEM trans will not hld more than 100 HP extra for any length of time. So, a VB and a TC are musts and then everything else depending on how big you want to go.:choochoo:

Upgrades can be made to your stocker to hold a good amount of power. If your going to be sledpulling you will require ATLEAST a billet input, and I would say a billet output would be a good idea. We also advise that the customer who sled pulls installs a better flex plate.

Another big issue thats often missed, If your going to upgrade your charger the charger size (mainly for spoolup reasons) must be determined before buying a converter!

Feel free to give me a call and I'll be glad to go over it with you!

You'll need the following upgrades to make your transmission last:

Minimum:
3 disc Torque Converter
Upgraded valvebody
Billet Input shaft

The better option would be:
Extreme duty rebuild
3 Disc Converter
Upgraded Valvebody
Billet Input
Billet Output
Flex Plate
and possibly an upgraded cooler or deep pan

Of course you could always purchase a Complete Transmission!

Im looking for the cheapest way with out having to worry about smoking something

Alli_Gator 10-07-2009 07:24 PM

The cheap way is not always the best way. Typically if you want big hp, you have to build the trans. Just my opinion, but you gotta pay to play.

Alli_gator is correct, you cant have your cake and eat it too!

ya i understand its just the thought of coming up with half as much as i payed for my truck for my trans

it would be better in your case to have one built or buy one already made with a converter

:c: Dont feel alone, I got a great deal on my truck and I can tell, my DTT tranny cost as much as the truck. The mom and pops lot that I got the truck from let it go due to what they called high mileage. I got mine at 268000, so the tranny was smoked from jump street. But since my mega cab was stolen, no warrenty other than me on this one...well why not build it as I wanted it. I love driving my truck every time I get in it. Matter of fact I was fooling around on the HOT side this morning and had to let out some smoke.....man the smile on my face as I tore down the road.......priceless
