Will this trans work?

I have an 01 2500 automatic 4x4. I added an airdog 150, 4" straight pipe, BHAF.
My question is If I get my Edge Comp and more guages that I need what power should I be making. Its not very clear to me what my HP is now so I cant add the estimated power from the comp. I know my trans will take a dump but I'm looking for one now that I can build on the side to swap in when the time comes.

My question is what power would I be making so I know how to build the trans, and also will a trans out of a 97 12v duelly work in my 01, its an auto also.

The only towing I do is a little jetski and in the bed some scrap sometimes I'm mainly building the truck for sport and the strip.
Thanks!

any tranny will work with a little modification

bobcat67 07-14-2009 12:18 AM

Build it big and do it once, cause once you add a little bit of power you always want more and better to have a built enough transmission from the get go then to not have enough when you want to go bigger

24v'd_Fury 07-14-2009 12:24 AM

Would you happen to know how much modification it will need?
Its not a problem really but I wanted to build it and swap it in and if its going to be a pain to put in I may reconsider because I dont wanna have my truck down for a while.
Do you have an estimate on HP and Torque I'll be making so I know what I'll need trans wise?
Thanks for the help, this site is great

Dr. Evil 07-14-2009 12:36 AM

At a bare minimum, you will need a valve body and a performance torque converter (preferrably billet and a triple disk).

It all depends on how much hp you are striving for. I know a couple of guys that have over $10k (yes, 10+K) in their TRANSMISSIONS.

24v'd_Fury 07-14-2009 12:42 AM

10k is alot! I knew i needed the converter and valve body but wasnt sure bout the input shaft and what not. I'm not really shooting for a particular HP and Torque number, I just want to do the comp and see what happens after that and what I need for reliability. I dont even know how much power I'll be making after the comp but I'll probably be happy with it. :w2:

Thats where you are making your first mistake.

I suggest you think long and hard about what you want to do with the truck and how much hp youll eventually want. Its more money upfront but will save you lots of $$ in the end.

If youre not in a hurry....spend some time reading sites, thinking, and talking to different people.

24v'd_Fury 07-14-2009 01:21 AM

Yea I'm patient, the only thing I want too hurry is the comp and the rest of my guages but I think everyone who's looking for power is anxous for there tuners.
Thats good advice Dr. Evil, I have to find out how much power I'll have after the comp to decide my final goals though. Would like to be streetable and not tow and I will probably pick up that trans if I get all my info together.

Fishin2Deep4U 07-14-2009 01:39 AM

Building your trans is easy enough. There's only a few special hard parts needed and of course a full rebuild kit, seals, ect. I would use a quality single disc Billet converter and a matching VB.

Of course you will most likely want to address the flexplate and input shafts if you are going to run the power up. The flexplate I do on EVERY trans. Even stock power. Lots of torn out ones at the shop.

Dave

24v'd_Fury 07-14-2009 01:48 AM

Yea I'm probably going to tear the trans down if it'll work and slowly do as much as possible till I need it. Any idea on how much power after the comp I'll have?
I want to go for a little more power after that eventually since a tuner is simple so I'll have to build the trans for more power than I have to give me room for more down the road.

Rooster24v 07-14-2009 09:13 PM

the comp on level 5 will add about 120 hp, so i think your truck stock is probably right around 220-230 so add another 120 and you are right around 340 or so off of the engine... now hp at the wheels will be lower maybe like 280 or so... (i think?!):humm:
I would skip the edge comp and go with a Quadzilla adrenaline..I had the comp, it was/is a great product, normal version is about 120 hp, and the hot comp is right around 140+hp... (might be wrong there too??) I put the Adrenaline in my truck and absolutely love it over the Comp. the adrenaline can make upwards of 180 hp too! You can download all kinds of custom performance tunes from the quadzilla website and upload them onto the Adrenaline for free!!!
Just something to think about.

Fishin2Deep4U 07-15-2009 12:39 AM

You'll see around 300-320HP give or take.

Pick the box you want to run and go for it.

As far as the trans, unless you know how to properly assemble it, it'll be tough to make it last. We sell trans rebuild kits, ect, but that comes with no technical assistance.

Dave

01quadcab 07-15-2009 12:40 AM

at the wheels with an edge comp should be in the 320 range. I did 319 on mine.

24v'd_Fury 07-15-2009 07:42 AM

Thanks for the help guys, I'm thinking about building the trans for around 500hp so I can have plenty of room to grow.
As for tuners I'm still so confused on which way to go, addrenline or comp. I have been debating this for a while now.
With the addrenline without pulse can I still download stuff?
I wanted to use mechanicle guages.
Thanks!:U:

01quadcab 07-15-2009 10:28 AM

go comp with gauges.

24v'd_Fury 07-15-2009 11:53 PM

I think I have worse things to worry about now.
Since where on the topic I'll explain: When going about 40-45mph right as the truck shifts into higher gear and me keeping a steady foot on the throttle the truck kinda lugs a few times and the rpm jumps a few 100rpm, drops, jumps, drops, ect.. It happens at 30-35 before It shifts now too but not as bad. It feels as if I where to let up and down on the throttle eventhough I'm not.

Does anyone have any ideas? I just noticed this today and I'm pissed. I just turned 100k miles too.:argh:

Fishin2Deep4U 07-16-2009 05:03 AM

Sounds like torque converter cycling.

Clean your battery cables and battery posts really well. If that does not fix it, get a DTT noise filter.

Dave

24v'd_Fury 07-16-2009 07:10 AM

What does it mean when its cycling?
And what is a DDT noise filter?
I'm kinda confused why my trans will act weird because of that.
Thank you for the info!

turbo20psi 07-16-2009 09:49 AM

Torque converter keeps locking and unlock electroniclly.Ckeck also on the pass. side battery there is a cable neg. side that has a grey clip that you can unplug if you need to replace the neg.cable make sure that is also clean.Noise filter keeps the electrical interferance from the alternator out of the curcuit that controls the lock up.

Yes, you can still upload different tunes from the website ( I dont have the pulse either) but I do have Boost and Pyro gauges. You can (but you dont have to, I didnt) hook up the wires that come with the Adrenaline, then you can see your Fuel pressure, EGT, Boost, and oil temp, unfortunatly you can only view one at a time, screen is too small to see all of them at once.

24v'd_Fury 07-17-2009 12:25 AM

Thanks for the info rooster, I cant wait to get my tuner, its going to be a comp or adrenlin.
As far as the trans, I listened to Fishin2Deep4U and cleaned the battery terminals(trans seems to be shifting fine now), at first I was surprised that he mentioned that but than it all made sense and I learned something cool. I'm also going to do what turbo20psi said and clean that clip.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 07-19-2009 09:40 PM

I tried cleaning the batt terminals on mine and it would work fine for a few days then it would start back again. I tried all kinds of tricks and they only thing that worked was the DTT noise filter.

24v'd_Fury 07-20-2009 08:46 AM

Do you know where I can find one?
I searched but didnt find much.
Where do the noise filters go and are they hard to put in?
Thanks

Vulcan carries the DTT line as well. They are an authorized DTT rebuilder!!

Dave

24v'd_Fury 07-21-2009 07:30 AM

Thanks guys, I'm going to grt that filter and look into thet regulator to get with it.

24v'd_Fury 07-24-2009 11:05 PM

Anyone have any other sites or pictures of the filter? I cant find it on the site and I wanna know the price too because I really need one.
Thanks

You need to call for a price or put in a price quote on the site, pictures of niose filter. Dieseltrans.com :: View topic - DTT NOISE FILTER. Two wires very simple.Vulcan # is 866-446-1043 give them a call.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 08-01-2009 12:05 AM

We carry the DTT Noise Filters as well :U:

Fishin2Deep4U 08-02-2009 12:33 AM

I just installed another one yesterday. Well, did a full DTT build. Great product that works!

No pics of the install, but I locate it above the PCM, on the flat near the hood hinge area. It stays dry and protected. I also locate the voltage regulator in the same place.
