Air Intake Mods

I was lookin at my air intake today to see where it draws air from. I don't know how many years this applies to but in my 99, it doesn't draw from anywhere. I used to think that it came in from up in the front around the grill area. There is no opening anyplace that feeds the breather.

So I'm just wondering if anybody out there has done any mods to push air through to the breather. I'm pondering 1 of two ideas myself. I am either going to cut a hole in the hood and either find or fab a small scoop over the top of where the filter sits. Or Im' gonna cut a hole in the wheel well area and fab a tube of some sort to channel air up to the filter. So I'm lookin for any pro's or con's to these ideas or anything else you can think of. No wonder EGT's are such an issue in these trucks, they are suckin air right off the hot engine.

funny you should post this.

I just took off a Scotty2 system that uses air from the cowling, and installed a BHAF. Do a search for BHAF, outerwears, and BHAF template.

BTW the BHAF is one of the best mods I have done.

EDIT: WIX # 42790

I'm happy with my intake itself, I just want some air flow to get to it. Unless they have something I'm missin that accomidates this.

I'd like someone smarter than me to tell me if the hole left by the Scotty helps get cool air from the cowl to the air cleaner. You might want to cut the hole :woot:

It would only help if you still have somekind of air damn in there to channel the air to the filter. That is if you have a sheild around your BHAF. With the sheild in place that hole in the cowling is cut off from the filter.

He's gonna need it Doc. He's gonna have to cut it up to use it as an air dam to channel air into his new filter.:tttt:

Didn't think you could get filters for the Scotty's any more.

Check out www.iceboxmanufacuring.com. The best place for cool air on gen 2 truck is the factory location [THRU THE FENDER]. With the Icebox you will notice lower EGT's, faster spool up, quicker cool down time and the filter is enclosed from the elements. We use Amsoil nanofiber filter's and you get to choose the color that best suites your truck.:c:

I tried shining a flashligh through the fender area that I pulled the factory air dam out of and can't find any direct routing for air to come through the fender. There is a very small opening there but I don't think nearly what it would take to supply this engine with enough fresh air.

He better not cut it up !!

Yeah, you should be able to get filters for the Scotty 2. I believe the original had a K&N, then he went to an AFE, and then he went to a foam style UNI filter.
