aluminized vs. stainless exhaust?
 

What's the difference? Pros and Cons? Or does it even matter. I did a search but couldn't find anything about this so now I'm curious.

Unless you are springing for the pricey 304 S.S. go with the Aluminized steel. Its much cheaper and the 409 S.S. corrodes almost as fast.

yeah price is the only difference except looks as the stainless will be shiny. stainless is also softer than aluminized

304 Stainless is the best you can buy, but can cost ya a small chunk of change to get it. The pro is that it will last a LONG time..like forever..but you'll have to do a TON of polishing to keep it shiney, and eventually it will tarnish from the heat.

409 Stainless, is pretty good stuff. Most stainless kits are made up of this material. And depending on the manufacturer, and the tube supplier, the life span of this stuff will vary. Yes it does corrode like mention above, but usually takes longer to corrode through the pipe than aluminized steel, my guess would be 10-20 year span.

Aluminized, this material again depending on the manufacturer and it's tube supplier,has a life span that varies as well. It does corrode, and usually on the weld seam of the tube first. This is because the re-metalization of the tube is usually the weakest. A GOOD aluminized system can last you 5-15years easy.

Now, the best thing to do is do a little research, and ask the manufacturer as many questions you can think of regarding their exhaust systems. They all do the same thing, the only difference is where the tube comes from usually. That plays a BIG roll in your life span of your exhaust.
