Check his Hydraulics

XLR8R 05-24-2009 09:31 AM

Many of the stronger aftermarket clutches (especially dual discs) with higher plate loads need upgraded hydraulics to work properly.

Does he have a South Bend or Valair?

singles dont, duals do i have a single and its the stock hydros its the biggest single clutch kit valair makes

XLR8R 05-24-2009 10:02 AM

Singles normally don't - but they can.

Is the topic your truck or step dad's?

If the clutch operation in question is from Valair, just give Dan a call - he's very helpful. :U:

it my step dads truck but ill run the two brands you told me by him and see if they ring a bell, thanks for the help ill let yall know if we get it to working right

Diesel Dawgs Performance 05-24-2009 06:12 PM

If you have weak Hydro's even adding just a Single Disc Clutch can make you have to replace them with a new set or upgraded set.

1999 Sport Cummins 05-25-2009 12:11 PM

he siad a south bend sounds familiar... and he said that when they put it in wich was about 6 mounths ago (he just hasnt been driving it hes been useing my moms truck) he put new hydros in it, but he said that upgrading them might fix it

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

he also said that he replaced his master cylinder and slave cylinder if thats what yall mean by hydros and were can we get some upgraded hydros

jkidd 05-25-2009 01:51 PM

master/slave cylinders are referred to as hydraulics or hydros

1999 Sport Cummins 05-28-2009 03:50 PM

Hey guys well we got some upgraded hydros and put them on but they didnt fix the problem:madd::humm::humm:... if you have any other suggestions they would be greatly appreciated

XLR8R 05-28-2009 05:04 PM

If it's a South Bend dual disc, there's a washer that needs to be removed from behind the clutch fork pivot ball during installation - that could cause the problem. :U:

I'm sure Peter can help if you give him a call.

well now we need to know which way the arm that moves the throw out bearing needs to be there is an h marking on one side of it does the h need to point to the drivers side or passanger side (part #5208715)

Valair1 06-01-2009 02:18 PM

the side with the number on it goes on the pivot ball, it will also have a I stamped on that side.maybe your h looks like a i that side is the passenger side.

had the exact same problem in feburary when i put my DD in from southbend, i removed the washer and everything, ended up needing to grind down the shift fork just a little to clear as it was hitting the trans and wouldnt engage or release all the way. you can tell by pulling the trans back from the bell housing an inch and seeing if the front of the tranny case is marred up, its a pain in the neck.

also, if its a dual disc, make sure you have the clutch plates facing the correct way, having them backwards will also cause this.

1999 Sport Cummins 06-01-2009 08:22 PM

well thanks guys come to find out the friend that helped us put it in wasnt wanting to admit that he put it in backwards :madd::bat: but hes use to working on gas chevys...oh and 01s dont have shift forks they have pivit arms... shift forks are on the 98,99 and i think 00s... but thanks anyways that info might be usefull if i have to put a performance clutch in mine

Valair1 06-02-2009 02:30 PM

the 52087515 is a clutch fork, and is in all dodge diesels from 94-08.

1999 Sport Cummins 06-02-2009 06:46 PM

oh well anyways the truck is moving and running good now we got it fixed

Diesel Dawgs Performance 06-02-2009 07:21 PM

shifting probs

i think i am also having problems with my hydrolics.it seems the starter is turing slower when i first start it up and it takes a lot of effort to put it in gear sometimes.is thier a test i can perform on the slave cylinder?any particular brand that is reliable or has a great waranty?i have changed the fluid in the trans and that did not help much.
thanks

are the hydrolics stand alone or are they assisted by vaccuum?

1999 Sport Cummins 06-04-2009 12:29 PM

south bend makes a performance hydros that already comes blead a for $300 thats what we put on it might check into it:U:

Diesel Dawgs Performance 06-04-2009 01:12 PM
