This is the shorthand version - because the injector pump (which costs well over a thousnd bucks) is lubed and cooled by the fuel. If you do not supply adequate fuel pressure and flow (from the lift pump), the injector pump will overheat and be damaged. That being said, the stock lift pumps in these trucks are junk. The first upgrade that needs to be done is a fuel pressure gauge and upgraded lift pump. Which costs around $600 if you do the work yourself.

bad lift pump, = lower pressure fuel to the VP44 (injection pump) which means the VP has to pull the fuel from in the tank... causing a early death of the VP = $1200 for a replacement.
I agree, FP guage (the great sponsers here on the site can hook you up in the "Request quote" area) then do the fueling box Id say a Edge Drag comp... a lot of power and have been a proven reliable product. Ian |
With the Comp box, he will also need a pyrometer and boost guage.

Ok ill be sure to tell him about the lift pump and the gauge. Thanks for the input guys!:U:

yep rule #1 with a 2nd gen 24v is aftermarket lift pump and fuel pressure guage:argh:
