Fuel or Programmer ??

A buddy has an 01 dodge with a SuperChip programmer & new LP & a pusher pump.
FP 28# at an idle

Installed a set of 100hp injectors, after install took it for a drive.

While driving we noticed that 4th, 5th & 6th gear it cuts out like it is running out of fuel. FP drops from 28 to about 12.

Cleared all codes and went again & same thing. So we desided to unload the SuperChip & walla ran great?

So desided it might be the pusher, so bypassed & reinstalled the programmer 1 stage at a time, you get to stage 2 and it comes back? Keeps throwing the map sensor code??? Can't remember which one?

If you get on it hard and let off of it..it will die? Sometimes it will hunt for fuel at an idle.

I know i left something out. Any suggestion??:humm:

did is old liftpump die and that is why he replaced it?? How long was it bad, im thinking maybe the vp is bad

BlackDodge 03-21-2009 11:43 PM

He was having some issues back in the winter with the truck not wanting to start. But when it warmed up it would start fine? ( Maybe heater grid )
So he decided to change the LP.

stkdram55 03-21-2009 11:45 PM

:humm: i betcha the vp is done and keep up with fuelin the bigger sticks

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-21-2009 11:46 PM

So he has changed the Lift Pump and Injection Pump? Or hes running 2 lift pumps?

MAP sensor code the only one its throwing?

Hes running 2 LP, but only for about 3 days, just put it on. The truck only has about 90,000 miles.

At 1 time we had 2 codes ( map & ??? )

Will call him in the morning or maybe he will jump in and help me out here tomorrow.
He is a DB.:5:

Ya id like to know more about is truck

BlackDodge 03-22-2009 12:35 AM

It is all stock except for the sticks, exhaust brake, 6 speed, stacks, gauges (Fuel-Boost-Pyro) & BHAF.

Not to be a smart a$$.
Any thing else Luke? :humm:

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-22-2009 12:41 AM

See how it runs with just his new LP. And have him watch his Fuel Pressure.

BlackDodge 03-22-2009 12:51 AM

Did that, just lower pressure at idle. The LP is an AirTech, they hold about 12-13 at idle and at WOT drops to 10. (without programmer)(just sticks)

When the superchip was reinstalled and started to cut out it dropped to about 6-7. When he let off it died and had to pull start it. Would not start on it's own?

Blue01cummins 03-22-2009 01:43 AM

when i had a superchips on my truck it would do weird things! (like die after i get on it hard) i dont like it is the truck or lp i think it is that superchips! with my comp i never have any problems!

stkdram55 03-22-2009 01:46 AM

:humm: ive never had problems with my superchips

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-22-2009 02:49 AM

its possible there is a problem with his Superchips......

BlackDodge 03-22-2009 11:08 AM

We are going to try downloading a different programmer and see if it changes anything.

Probably going to use the smarty off BigEd's truck. (what's left of it):tttt:

stkdram55 03-22-2009 12:54 PM

lol

rodneydiesel2 03-22-2009 01:54 PM

Hey everybody this has got me all confused. :humm:The code it was showing was 0237 and 0234 which is Turbo boost limit exceeded and MAP Sens. voltage too low. Tried different MAP sensor out of buddy's 2001 and didn't help anything. Was driving it last night with superchip in it on the high setting and in 6th gear I stepped on it and she was running like a top and everything seemed like it was fine. Today when I drove it, it seemed like it still tried to sputter a little at top end, but it almost seems like it might be getting better. Wondering if maybe my injectors are just getting worked out to where they need to be.

stkdram55 03-22-2009 02:00 PM

its throwin an overboost code, you need a boost fooler

BlackDodge 03-22-2009 02:07 PM

Guy's this is the truck!!!!

Hey Rodney glad you found this to help me out.

Did you hook the pusher pump backup? Is it still hunt for fuel at an idle?

Once it throws that code does it try to cut back on the fuel???

rodneydiesel2 03-22-2009 02:11 PM

The pusher pump and everything is hooked back up. It is actually not showing any codes now.

stkdram55 03-22-2009 02:12 PM

it might, if ya got the 60 bucks get a boost fooler or find someone that does and see if that fixes it.

Tweaker727 03-22-2009 03:53 PM

I didn't belive that the ECU would limit fuel either, oddly enough, The BD boost fooler stuck enough fuel in my motor to grab another 6-7 lbs of boost and about an extra 200* EGT's

My truck certainly did the boot scootin boogie with the fooler'

i don't know if superchips edits the boost / map curve in the ECU like edge or smarty does.

If you get a Boost fooler, make sure you clear the codes first other wise it doesn't work

I got the " Boost limit Exceeded " code as well

As for the map sensor voltage to low, i would check the 12V and 5V ref. and ground wires for proper voltage, Might be a knick in the wiring, or an ECU issue,

Find a buddy with alldata online, and print up a few wiring schematics. if you can't find one, let me know !

BlackDodge 03-28-2009 12:16 AM

Just a little update : The truck has it's days where it will run great and then there will be a time where it will start it all over again??
Boost fooler is on, not one code showed up when it came time to clear and install the fooler?:humm:

Possible bad ECM

rodneydiesel2 04-09-2009 11:24 PM

Hey I was wonderin, and I failed to mention that my superchip programmer came out of my other 02' dodge, and I was wonderin if it is possible since the superchip is VIN locked, if it could possibly not be advancing the timing right on my 01 that would be causing it to run rough like it does, guess I need to try like an edge or something in it. I also drilled out all my banjo bolt fittings bigger to let it get more fuel and it is still running the same with the chip on high setting.

Tweaker727 04-09-2009 11:43 PM

28#'s of fuel pressure seems a bit much to me at any rate,

Tried reseting the APPS and changing the fuel filter ?

The codes were what ? 0234 " Overboost " and like 1693 " Hey you.. there's a problem that i found in the ECU ? " or something of those sorts.

The hunting for an steady idle makes me wonder about the new injectors you put in as well, Sticking ? not flowing right.. something on those lines ?

Did you have the programmer before the injectors were installed?

Best of luck ! More info will help !! :choochoo:

Edit : I didn't see the second page, where i had allready pitched in my .02, so ignore most of what i said, and take what you need,

IMO, if the superchips is VIN locked, it wouldn't do any thing, not just leave timing out, cause that would be realllllly bad for a motor, but i don't know .. i'm not an expert on programmers

rodneydiesel2 04-13-2009 07:47 PM

Its running about 14 PSI at WOT, I have reset the APPS and just changed fuel filter, cleared codes and the only one it was bringing up was 1694 (no BUS message recieved from ECM Mod). I had the programmer before injectors were installed and worked fine, also had exact same setup on my 02' and it ran great, same injectors same programmer, Aux. pump. I'm saving to get a FASS or an Airdog eventually and see what that does.

BlackDodge 04-17-2009 06:01 PM

Rodney i think 1694 is something to do with the computer on the IP. Either loosing communication to the ECM or the computer is taking a dump.

rodneydiesel2 04-19-2009 02:51 PM

Hey guys I think we got it figured out. Took ECM out of wrecked 02' and put it in my blue truck and she's running great and never misses a beat. So I'm looking to get a new ECM cause since I did that my dash gauges aren't working right. Like the oil pressure gauge don't move and check gauges light is on.I'm guessing because it is not programed right for that truck? Is there a way to use a salvage ECM and get it reprogrammed or do I need to just get a new one.
