4.10s killing times?

Good afternoon
what are everyones thoughts on 4.10's and the 1/4 mile? ive heard mixed reviews of people saying they are good and others saying they are killing the top end...im running a 35" tire right now but would like to go to a 33" w/ a lot less aggresive tread...so are the 4.10s hurting me/gonna hurt me? im not really excited about the idea of swapping gears...

good question...i honestly dont know:argh: you're talking about rpm right??? right now im running at 97-98 mph crossing the line...however, that's changing as of tomorrow when it recieves a lot more fuel and a lot more air (big single, huge sticks)...im just afraid w/ the new mods (should be pushing me into the mid 12's), that those gears will be holding me back...

3.54 gears vs 4.10 would be a difference of 14%.

31.6" tall stock tires with a 3.54 gear would require a 10% change or about 3.93 ratio to correct for 35" tires. So, you are probably spinning a bit fast and nosing over before the stripe.

If a guy was running a 3.54 gear and running 33" tires, and swapped to 35" tires and wanted to maintain the same final drive you would 3.75.

So, you need to figure out if you want to gear closer to the 265 tire height or the 285 tire height.

But the original question of are 4.10s holding you back? Maybe. Your 60' and trap speed will probably be better with a 3.73 gear. If you have the power to turn it. At the same power levels, you may have traction problems, even with the 35s. If you go to a 33" tall tire, I would go to a 3.54 gear myself.

with my truck only have the edge juice and basic mods when I was only making 319 I went 15.17 at 88.33 60' of 2.046 this is a time slip I have still I had been with that setup 15.06 I have 33's and 3.54's. I was going to find out with the new setup would run making 440hp this next weekend but track has to update the tower so canceled the street night. I think the 33's and 4.11's will hurt. stick with the 35's and you should be pretty happy. I guess you could always find a buddy with 33's and run both sets to see what does better..

got it. you guys confirmed what i was thinking...ill probally stay w/ a 35 (maybe a small one that measures more like 34.5)...if i get ahold of some 33's by chance, ill run them and post up on the differences....thanks guys:c:

with 4.10s and 33" tires my truck tops out at about 112 MPH or so. So as long as you are still getting full fueling to 3200 RPM you should be doing alright. However A lot more questions need to asked as to your overall tuning and and specs before anyone can truthfully say "this x.xx gear is better for you"

What are you running for a GSK? If you can hold the RPM and keep pulling, you should be ok. A 4k GSK would be alright with 4.10's. However I think the 3.54's would be ideal.
