Time for a Turbo

It is time for me to buy a different turbo. Thought I would ask on here and see what some of you guys and gals might suggest. I want to do twins but don't have the funds right now to go that way but, would like to get a turbo that i could use in a twin setup later. Its a daily driver and I do some towing with it also. Any suggestions would be great!

Phat Shaft 62/14 or Super Phat Shaft 62/14 :U:

200hp injectors? hope you havent been running that w/ the stock turbo...200's on a 62 are gonna get hot, espically if you are towing...go w/ the 62/14 so you can go straight to twins and when you tow, turn the box off so it doesnt get too toasty

Mr.Krabs 01-23-2009 11:24 AM

He'd just have to watch the EGTs is all,I've thought about getting some 200s myself:yeah:

Gixxer_750 01-23-2009 11:27 AM

150 is the absolute highest to go stock turbo...a 62 is the perfect match for 150's

Look into the Super B charger......57/65/14 and when you get the funds go with the BD compound kit! Either way....head towards a 62/14 if you are going to go ahead with the compounds and are doing any bit of towing!

go with a s300 based turbo like what I am running as there is a truck the shop did using my same turbo as the top and it makes an easy 530hp and very towable and clean.

Fishin2Deep4U 01-24-2009 03:16 AM

What kind of twins do you want to run?

If it's a smaller/ fast spooling set I would go 62/65-14 over S400.

Little bigger power 62/71-14 over S400 or S480.

The 12cm housing would be a bit faster spooling, but would not be the best choice in compounds.

I've benn thinking about a s300 in a 62/71-14 config. I've heard the s300 is a very reliable turbo. With the stock turbo I just watch the egt guage and when it hits 1300 I let out.

How does a II Silver Bullet do on the street? I can buy one used for $1100 from my buddy.

01quadcab 01-29-2009 10:20 PM

does that come with the downpipe etc?

Is it a 62/14, 64/14 or 66/14?

sstockton 01-30-2009 02:19 PM

If it is an actual silver bullet, it is a 66mm charger, Industrial calls their 62 a silver 62 and the 64 a silver 64. I know some guys that have run the 66's and they say that they have a tendency to be a little surgy on the street, and aren't a great towing turbo, but work well for drag racing. 1 was actually set up really similar to yours only an Auto. If you're trying to street drive it and care about drivability, I'd stick with a 64mm charger.

It comes with the downpipe because he put together a set of twins.

Lucas from L&N has a 66 turbo on his 01 with Mach 8+++ injectors and his truck isnt very streetable. Once it spools its gone but it takes alot to spool it.

the 62/14 will have some lag compared to the stock HX or HY that you are running, but when it spools up it will run like a raped ape:yeah:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

what are you mainly using the truck for?

Dodgehunter84 02-15-2009 10:17 PM

Rooster, read my origanal post, i tell all that there.

just got back from a road trip towing a 16' long 102" wide 7' tall enclosed trailer thats flat on the front from redding to La and back with my 62/14 the thing did great. Could flat tow in od and keep the temps down and went over the hills with no issues at 68mph thats where I had my cruise set at. The mileage was not great but that had to do with my injectors and the fact that my trailer has no bubble or wedge up front it's flat wish it was a goose neck. I get about 2-3 mpg better towing the longer heavier horse trailer. Worst mileage was on way down with high winds most of the way 10.2. Best was 12.85 winds were blowing both ways due to the storms etc. But a lot less on sat on the way home. Left tuesday mid afternoon with high winds. difference between the winds was 14psi almost whole way down minus hills and home was 6-8psi at same speed.
