Hot Unlock Issue

so today I decided it was time to spend the money and get the hot unlock code as it was just egging me on. So I did. levels 1-5 pull hard from 2-3k level 6 doesn't pull hard at all. I stick my foot in it when rolling along at 45 and it feels like someone turned the fuel off. I bump it back down to 5 and it takes off. when on 6 and I let off the throttle it picks up when about 1/4 pedal left for just a split second. Anyone else have this issue? My fuel pressure is at 16psi, full tank of fuel, fass only 4 months old, levels 1-5 work fine, make 36 lbs of boost on levels 1-5... so I feel like I wasted 100 bucks... :argh:

I dont know sounds like a fuel issue......On my 06 the hot unlock was the best $100 i ever spent.

thats what I was thinking but why does it not want to run even on the bottom end from 2-3k it doesn't run but then starts to pull at 3k

Needs more fuel! Do you have a pressure gauge? Sounds like its starving....

Can try adjusting the APPS:

This is different than resetting it. I did it to mine today and it made a nice difference. Boost comes up faster and smoke is down. You have to measure the voltage that the APPS is putting out then compare that to the voltage that it's supposed to be set at. For example. My apps was putting out .450 volts and it was supposed to be putting out .584 volts. I went and adjusted it and now I'm putting out .580 volts. It's not a major difference but it is nice. I've only put maybe 5 miles on it so far but come wednesday I'll be doing 500 miles a week so I'll give yall a better idea on how it drives.

Instructions:

Tools: Digital Volt Meter, T-20 Torx bit, #1 phillips, 10mm socket

With the key on, engine off you need to probe the APPS wire to see where the voltage is currently set at.
The best location to probe the wire is on the PCM (Power Control Module) which is located on the passenger firewall behind the air intake.

* You want the C1 connector, this is the connector closest to the engine
* You want the orange wire with a dark blue tracer which is pin #23
* Voltage should be somewhere around 0.5 volts,
* At this point the voltage reading does not matter, it just has to be accurately written down for later reference

TURN THE IGNITION OFF ON THE TRUCK

Remove the black plastic cover off of your APPS. There are two plastic screws. One on the top and one on the front facing the radiator. It takes a little prying to pull it off.

Undo the 6-10mm bolts that hold the bracketru in place but DO NOT REMOVE THE CABLES!!

You will notice the APPS is on the back of the bracketry that you just removed, it is held in place by 2-T20 torx bit screws. These screws have a little bit of locktite on them so make sure you have a good socket and gently give a little tap with a hammer before attempting to loosen. Be very careful because these screws strip VERY easily and you only get one shot at them (VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT; They are VERY tight).

On the APPS you will find a white tag that gives you the information on what the APPS voltage should be.

* After loosening the screws (do not remove) you can rotate the APPS clockwise or counter clockwise to get the adjustment (towards the front of the truck increases voltage and towards the rear of the truck decreases voltage)
* The reading you took at the beginning of the process on pin #23 should match the white tag on your APPS. If it doesn't the adjust accordingly.

Or reset the APPS:

turn key on
slowly push pedel to floor
slowly let pedel up
turn key off

id be giving edge a call...on the 2nd gens, the hot unlock doesnt add anymore power like a 3rd gen, it just raises the defueling point...so if anything, it should be acting like lvl 5 untill you hit 2700 rpm, then hold on causes it's still fueling hard...if it's weaker then lvl 5, call them up and see what they can do to fix it...

Thanks guys. I called edge yesterday and he said to try turning off the backdowns just in case it was doing something funny. No change there. Guess I will have to call them back. I will mess with the apps too. I know I have the fuel there with 16psi with my foot on the floor and my fass keeping up with it.

mine worked great, you can tell the difference, on the dyno, i really didnt make anymore hp then lvl 5 but i made bout 30 ftlbs more on lvl6 then i did 5 plus you can tell its fueling harder and longer on lvl 6 then 5 normally. too me it sounds like your VP44 is stalling and not putting enough fuel out even though its getting 16 psi, the amount fuel its being told to put out by the hot unlock feature maybe beyond its limits, either that or youve got a bad connection somewhere on the pump wire. just out of curiousity, how old is the edge?

01quadcab 01-09-2009 05:15 PM

it's 2 years old almost.

dukeboy_318 01-09-2009 05:17 PM

its a slight possibility that you may have tooo old of a verision software to run it right, ive got the 2.0.71, whats yours?

itll tell you when it first starts up or you can check in the module information feature on the attitude
