***Question On Lift/Leveling Kit...
 

First off I'm new to this forum, just bought my truck about two weeks ago, just joined this site yesterday. I have a 98.5 24v Ram 2500 Ext Cab Short Bed truck. I'm wanting to level the truck out with the 2" spacer they make for it but I'm thinking it might already have bigger springs on it. It's got block under the leafs in the back. It currently has 285/75/16 size tires on it and they fit fine, infact it looks like I could go even a little bigger. From what I've read, lifting it 2" alows for the size of tires I already have. So i'm thinking it may already have a little bit of a lift. My concern is that if I do buy these spacers and lift the front end even more if it is already infact lifted, will I have to change out control arms or trac bar or anything like that, or will I be fine adding just 2 more inches?

Second, The leveler kit should be enough to take out the factory rake and make the truck look level, sitting still.

I do not believe you will need to drop or extend anything to add 2" to the front end.

After I added the 2" kit, I was able to stuff 35" tires under there, without any problems. I believe my tires are 12.50" wide. The wider you go, the better the chances are of something rubbing under a load (suspension compression).

Thanks for the reply...Now I know I can add 2" with no problems. My question is...if the truck already has bigger springs in front to give it a little lift, and I add 2 more inches with the spacers, will I then have to change out any front end parts?
I think if it didn't have blocks in the back, the truck would sit level. Thats why I'm thinking who ever had the truck before put bigger springs up front.

you will be OK with the original control arms but aftermarket ones will compensate for the lift by changing the angle on yer driveline

So the aftermarket control are obviously recomended, but are the factory ones going to be okay. I'm not going to burn up U joints or mess up the driveline with that much more angle on a stock set up am I? The only reason I'm getting this leveling kit is becasue I found someone in town who has in on craigslist for $50. I thought I'd just cheaply level it out for now and then when I can afford it, do it right later. But at the same time I've already spent so much money on this truck and I don't want to create other problems by lifting it too much without puting in the right aftermarket parts.

you should change the front shocks with it the factory ones will bottom out with travel. I have 6" springs on mine with the 3" leveling blocks and the control arms are fine

are you for sure that it already has a lift, i had 285s on my stock hieghth 98.5 for a while with out rubbing. post a pic of your truck if you can. if its got the leveling kit already, its easy to tell. most lift kits account for the 2 inch front drop and compsenate for that, for example, a superlift 3 in kit comes with 5inch taller front springs and 3 inch rear blocks. post a pic and we'll go from there, by the way, these trucks all come withblocks under the rear springs from the factory, espeically if you have the camper package

Sounds to me like your still at a stock height. Dodge used a lift block under the rear springs from the factory. You can fit a 33 easily under a stock truck. Mine rub just barely but not enough to worry about. the width and rim offset messes with that too.

A spacer will work but if i had the option i would go with a 2" longer coil. It will ride better. Also, you'll want to think about longer shocks too. you don't really need them but it will improve the ride.

Is the truck sitting level now? if the front is down lift it up with no issues.

The truck does sit with the front end a little low. I didn't realize theses trucks came stock with a block under the back. The block has to be atleast 3" tall, I just didn't think they did that with stock trucks. So maybe I am at stock height then. I'll try and post a picture.
