Best Turbo???

I've been putting off getting a turbo for a while now because l dont know much about them and of course the price. But its time to break down and get one. I have a 2001 cummins with Stage 5 injector nozzles, stage 5 edge chip, smarty programer, and a industrial injection vp44 hotrod injection pump. What would be the best turbo to get?

:hi:

I'm sure you'll get a ton of opinions from our members but quite honestly, your best bet is to call a turbo manufacturer and ask them which one of their products would work best for you. :c:

BD Super B or Super B "Special"

Also depends on what you use the truck for.

I happen to know for a fact a HTT 62/12 would run great on your truck and easily make over 500hp. I had the same mods minus the smarty and made several runs all over 500. The highest was 550/1205. what treanny do you have? also you will need a good fuel system to keep up.

Before recommending anything I would have more questions.

Obviously, you have an '01.

Is this a stick or auto truck?

Do you have a SO or HO pump?

What is your gear ratio? Tire size?

What do you use your truck for? Towing? How heavy? Tooling around town? Racing?

What is your altitude?

Are you planning on twins (compounds) in the future?

All these questions will help nail down a specific recommendation. It's easy to suggest something I sell to get your money, but it's better that you get an honest answer. Turbos are NOT a one size fits all proposition. And a little research and planning now will avoid a large financial regret later on.

There are some basic recommendations that hold pretty true of most trucks. Just fill in some of the info and go from there.

It is a stick with a 750 hp clutch from velair. I do have an HO pump. Also have a F.A.S.S fuel system. I think my gear ratio is 3.73 but i cant remember. Ive got 35 inch tires. I live in Austin, Tx. I dont know what the altitude is here. Twins would be nice but i dont know if i can afford them unless i save up some more. Still would like to think about it.

No the HO pumps were factory on the manuall 245hp trucks the SO pumps were for the 235hp trucks. A Hotrod pump or HotRodVP is an aftermarket pump that a few places build. It will make alot more power down low but you wont see the gains with a box or tuner that you will with the SO pump.
