I'd Prefer a turbo that would spool faster than stock. I think what I'd need to get what i want would be a twin setup with a smaller or stock sized turbo fed by a larger turbo. If I understand twins normally a larger turbo pulls in air from the air cleaner, then feeds it into the smaller turbo and that feeds it to the intercooler and then the engine. The exhaust goes into the smaller turbo then to the larger turbo and finally out the down pipe. Is that correct?

Would a stock sized but more modern turbo, maybe a ball bearing with a more efficient set of wheels or more modern design maybe spool faster and give more ultimate pressure than my stock 15 year old turbo? Does anyone here know about that kind of turbo? Oh and that 15 year old turbocharger has been feeding the truck for 171,000+ miles. Might be a bit worn by now, ya think?

You could use a HX35/S475 combo. I believe its good for about 500hp. But a set of compounds setup to work with your stock turbo will run about $2500-3000.

Yeah, My intentions are probably very different from nearly everyone else. I'm not interested in peak horsepower that requires me to spin the engine at high rpm to get it. I don't drag race, nor do I sled pull. I am interested in torque and low egt for cruising down the highway in top gear and nice and quiet. So I could probably be happy with a turbo set that would spool very quickly and not smoke when I have to get on the freeway and run out of fuel at 2800 but would pull strongly at 2,000 rpm up a grade. I don't need the high rpm capability since I will probably never exceed that rpm except by accident. When I'm not towing I typically shift at 1600 or less unless I'm on an on ramp. Then I might go to 2K. Towing I up shift at 2500. If I hit a grade and it won't pull without excess egt I downshift about 1700. My owner's manual says not to pull heavy loads below 1600 rpm in 6th. So I give that a bit of leeway. I'm that guy people used to refer to as a "grandpa" driver.
