VP44

what fuel psi can a vp44 handle, and what does an airdog 150 produce?

Uncle Bubba 05-22-2008 11:03 PM

The VP44 will be fine if it never goes below 5 psi and never more then 20 psi. Depending on who you talk to this may vary 1 or 2 psi in any direction.

I'm pretty sure you can adjust the Air Dog or FASS to operate at your desired pressure.

dieselsmoke74 05-22-2008 11:08 PM

what would be the desired pressure

Uncle Bubba 05-23-2008 12:34 AM

That depends on who you talk to. Personally I have mine set up to hold 18psi at all times.

DB Admin 05-23-2008 05:05 AM

Im running ~20 PSI with the Air Dog its adjustable tho

around 15 psi is ideal , im just too lazy to turn mine down

Mr.Krabs 05-23-2008 11:26 AM

Mines around 15psi,made it over 200k on my last VP.

dukeboy_318 05-27-2008 06:19 PM

my fass 150 gph idles at 16 psi and under full throttle it drops to 12-13 when ive got my edge turned up. if i were you, id look at getting the new adjustable one from fass, you can adjust that thing anywhere from 15 to 45 psi!

Stangpwr71 05-27-2008 08:31 PM

Ive ran over 23psi in my vp44 for over a year with no issues, but then again i am trying to swap in a p-pump:madd:

justviper1 05-31-2008 01:32 AM

i am in the market for a new injection pump mine is slowly dieing. is there a way to switch to the p-pump? anyone have any good prices on a VP44?

stkdram55 05-31-2008 06:48 AM

yeah there is a way to convert, you have to change your front gear cover from a 12 valve get custom injector lines made, and some people say you'll be alright with with your original injectors but its better to have at least 90's or you'll pop your injector lines, i also think you have to get the gear from the 12 valve to run the pump, oh yeah and dont forget the pump.:rocking: theres probably some things im forgetting but that short of it

justviper1 05-31-2008 11:37 PM

that doesn't sound too bad. would after market chips still work on the truck if the p-pump was put on instead of the vp?

Nope.

Just a personal opinion here, but if you want a P-pump why not just transplant a 12V in there. Probably cost you less by the time it's all said and done and once you change the pump over you have lost all the good things that come with the 24V anyway.

Mr.Krabs 06-01-2008 03:56 PM

I was thinking about a p-pump a while ago,and I'm going to do it next time if I have the money,I wish there was a way to have cruise control is all.
24 valver would have better airflow no?

dukeboy_318 06-02-2008 11:59 AM

yeah, the 24s breathe better, id stick with a VP44, you lose alot of driveability with a p-pump conversion, unless you are cranking some massive power numbers, its better to stay with the vp44. think of it like this
brand new vp44- $1170

p-pump conversion
p7100-1170
lines 400-500 depending on company
front cover and gear- anywhere from 150 up
custum throttle linkage
injectors- 600-1600

its some much cheaper to just get you a new vp44.

crazytexan 06-04-2008 05:51 PM

Now with the Monster VP You can get alot more out of your truck like you would with the P-pump. But again, Its for the serious power junkies. And what I heard when i was gettin my head work done was a stage 3 port and polish 12v head will flow just as much as a stock 24v head.

Mr.Krabs 06-07-2008 12:11 PM

I was just wondering why a person would swap a 12 valve in where you have a 24 valve, then have to stage 3 port/polish the head so that it will flow as much as the engine you've already got in there?'
Wonder how much a stage three port polished 24 valve would flow...:humm:

dukeboy_318 06-07-2008 01:37 PM

24 valve head will alway out flow a 12 valve, and if what youre saying is true about a 12 valve stage 3 head flowing as much as a stock 24 valve head, isnt it cheaper just to put a stock 24 valve head on it then or even better, port and polish the 24 valve head?

Airdog sets their pumps to 15psi for the vp-44 cummins.

but it can be easily increased with some washers.

dukeboy_318 06-07-2008 03:20 PM

id keep it around 15, that plenty, too much PSI will kill you pump just as quick as too low of PSI. I had a bosch representative at cummins, tell me that when i talked with him about it. any more then about 20-25 will kill the pump, itll burst the diaphram inside the pump. Just like when a lift pump goes out, the thing will work for a while but eventually itll fail.:U:
