Smoke Switch?

anyone heard of this? i wanting to do it to a buddy 2001 cummins. can someone shine some light on this for me?

and yes, fuel is 4.43 here but geez wat fun is a truck that dont smoke a little?

Uncle Bubba 05-22-2008 07:00 PM

You just run a shut off to the MAP Sensor so that you can turn it on and aff if this is what your refferrring to. If his truck is an Automatic it will probably throw a few codes when you do it.

2001shrtbedcummins 05-22-2008 07:02 PM

um...unless he has a fueling box...it won't do too awful much. If he has something like an edge comp...works like a charm...just hope he has something to clear the codes.

slowtowpig 05-22-2008 07:18 PM

theres no fueling box or chip of anykind, he has a scanner to clear the codes just in case. the map sensor is on the side of the block on a cummins correct?

Uncle Bubba 05-22-2008 10:12 PM

Your a different year then mine so maybe they changed somethin but on mine it's on the front of the block behind the radiator. Down towards the drivers side if I remember right. Before you start cuttin and hackin just unplug it first to see if it gives you the results you want.

Stangpwr71 05-27-2008 08:42 PM

it will work a little bit without a chip but nothing like with a big box

91rangerturbo 05-27-2008 10:21 PM

It's really meant for a Edge Comp box. That's where the most gain's are seen. I did it on my truck when it was stock and i didn't notice a difference at all. It came up with codes right off the bat. Don't do it unless you have a Edge Comp or EZ.

CumminsCrazed 05-28-2008 09:11 AM

i used to have it unplugged with my truck.....last time i did it the truck acted up badly and started getting surging and getting dead pedal. I wouldnt recommend it after seeing what it did to my truck! I think it messed up my VP

Wyatt Earp 05-28-2008 09:24 AM

Zach and others, likely. Smoking the truck is ok with advanced timing and fuel but unplugging the MAP is not the way to do it. Besides at $5+ a gallon why do you want to waste the fuel?

CumminsCrazed 05-28-2008 09:34 AM

if ya want smoke so bad, do it safely and with a smarty and huge injectors or something.....

Wyatt Earp 05-28-2008 10:07 AM

I have HUGE sticks and a Smarty / EDGE Comp stack and I can drive without any smoke if I take it easy on the skinny pedal. On the other hand I can black out the city if I stand on it.

lol I hear ya on that one. I just wish I could convince my husband to be a little lighter on the pedal but he pays the fuel so oh well I guess he can be obnoxious.:choochoo:

me too, i can usually average over 19 mpg if i dont play around, but i do and i still average between 18 and 19. Got love it when some highschool punk with one of the fast and the furious wanna be cars pulls along side and starts reving, i love it when i smoke the crap out of them and beat them down the road, hehe:tttt:

Jonny 07-18-2009 05:18 AM

I had one on mine. The wiring broke one day and never fixed it. It worked a little, nothing too great for mine anyhow. The brake and gas work the best, but my tranny can take that now :U:

BAD ASS RAM 07-21-2009 10:12 AM

if you want real smoke get a 12 valve:rocking:

CumminsPowerOrNoPower 10-28-2009 05:21 PM

So if you mess with the map sensor, you will throw codes.

Uncle Bubba 10-28-2009 06:17 PM

Manual tranny may throw codes, auto will always throw them.

That is the data port, the map sensor is on the head behind the fuel filter.

CumminsPowerOrNoPower 10-29-2009 10:27 AM

well i screwed with mine, and i got a 5 speed and it threw the code multiple times.

24vmatt 06-01-2010 10:55 PM
