99 dodge hard start

My 99 dodge is at it again, at times turns over several times before starting, cold or hot, once running has no problem, plenty of power plenty of fuel pressure, pressure 15-17 psi at idle and 10 plus while driving whether up hill or flat roads. can tack 2k-2500 rpm still 10 plus psi, only issue now is sometimes hard to start. changed fuel filters, checked from tank to engine for leaks, none found.

Do you get a wait to start light and is the grid heater working? Voltage at the grid heater at least?

PeteBug 05-22-2015 08:25 AM

Yes the wait to start comes on and goes off I do have voltage at the grid so assuming it is working. Monday of this week it started fine first thing in the morning, rest of day it cranks much longer when trying to start. Has been same all week long

sounds like a relay that is intermittent or maybe the heater itself. I don't have my schematics with me but it maybe worth checking voltage at the heater multiple times over and over to see if it fails.
Not sure what the ohms are through the grid heater with it unplugged.
Any mods on this truck?

PeteBug 05-22-2015 02:07 PM

No mods all stock, I will try checking first thing when I start it and maybe several times when I start it as the day goes by to get several readings. Thanks for info.

Also check your battery voltages make sure one battery isn't reading low.
Each one Independently would be best.
Some people will say 12 volts is enough but a battery that is in good condition even after sitting in a rest state should have 12.5 to 12.8 volts.

PeteBug 05-23-2015 01:17 PM

I checked my grid and relays this morning( found info for ohms ) reads voltage and ohms like specified. Started fine this morning. Was told by a friend that even if the grid wasn't working it should still start fine with temps we have been having. So far all volts and ohms check out ok. As for battery voltage both have 12.3 volts, 1 is about 6 mos old the other less than 2 mos.
