Steering Box Options

So now that everything else is replaced in the front end the only thing left is the steering box itself. Can anybody tell me what the options are that are available for our trucks. Don't need any high performance ready to run the Baja 500 with, just make it go straight down the road and easier to turn.

Still waiting to get some info on the BD Steering Box Stabilizer

That's my next step and I hope it helps but I know this steering box is gonna go at some point to. It's worlds better now that the new front end is done but the steering is still stiff and the crown in the road still tends to grab the wheel more then i like.

PSC, and AGR make boxes for our trucks, you can get a HD version which I guess has GM parts in it :booo:, haha. Or you could just go to Napa and buy a rebuild kit and do it yourself, or spend the extra cash and swap your old one for a new rebuilt one. Last time I checked around here, the rebuild kit was about $40 cheaper than the rebuilt box after you returned the core, $40 is a cheap rebuild IMO, and I'll let the Napa machinist do it for me for that price.

i just bought a new one, might cost more but wouldnt give you any problems

PSC and AGR are the ways to go.

I wont go into the steering box stabilizer band aids.

I looked at PSC and couldn't find any real info to figure out price ranges and what all parts were needed, so if anybody can elaborate a little on either PSC or AGR.

(SG-841MD) '93-'02 Dodge Cummins Diesel Steering Gear [SG-841MD] - $430.00 : PSC Motorsports, Off-Road Steering Experts

With the core charge knocked off they are only $330 in the end. High dollar but if they work as stated a good investment. I'm pondering the new Gear and a new OE replacement pump also jut to make sure everything is good. So under $500 for a complete new system.

As compared to a Gear from Dodge that is $485 not including the core charge. I haven't called NAPA to see what they get for theres yet. What does bother me with the PSC's though is that they are rebuilds. Don't know if I like that idea but I guess it's workin for them.

Try finding a box that isn't rebuilt... Nobody is gonna cast their own housings, and without a "New" housing, it'll always be considered rebuilt. I've never seen a power steering box crack from normal driving. Now if your gonna rail the thing against rocks everyday, then it might crack, but so would a new one. I did see a guy crack one from drilling holes poorly for a hydraulic assist, but that was his own fault.

I know AGR offers a quicker ratio box that I might go with, but I haven't been able to find it for a while.
