Hey guys,pretty pissed off at my VP44,why should I change over to a ppump,or why should I not change over.
I like the thought of turning the key and hearing vrooming noises every time.

One of my buddies did it and it turned out great. Used the kit from schied I believe.

Not a cheap undertaking though...

Its probally the best setup for a 24V but it is a huge undertaking and the cost is not small by no means.

Okay,what am I missing guys,I have to admit,I have not had time to do a lot of the homework on this one,I know I can get a pump for a little over $1000 and the kit from Haisley with the timing case and all,for $1542(+shipping I imagine)
So thats like $2500
What other costs are involved guys?
I'm not disputing that there are are more costs,lay it on me!
I also am not looking for 900hp to the ground ether,just about 300 RELIABLE.

You would need to change the cam to run a mechanical lift pump( or go to a high pressure electric pump). Plus the special fuel lines and possibly different injectors.

That's just what I recall, there is more.

I've got a belt driven pump,checked,the 275s I got will work,the fuel lines come in the kit.
keep it up though guys,anything you all can think of!

But Ill tell ya, my buddys experience couldnt be farther from the thruth. He has a solid 410 hp or so and is very happy with the way it turned out (Im not sure if his cruise control works though). He went with the high pressure FASS pump instead of doing the cam - but if you are going to go that far, you might as well do the mechanical lift pump and put in a performance cam.

If you have the time, desire, money, tools, and ability why not do it?

Trust me when my VP went I seriously considered this route, once I started doing the research it was just a little out of my reach financially and all I saw at the time was the never ending tinkering to get them tuned.

I need my truck to run like a Swiss watch (which it does with the new VP).

Money IS a concern,it's just that now I've got a truck clear over in Portland OR thats a 640mile round trip,have to haul the truck I borrowed back,and haul my Dually back,fuel is going to cost me,lost work is going to cost me.
My darn cruise don't work now,cause' the 2000 engine used the vacuum unit for the apps,and mine used the electronic kind.
If I could Ppump this thing and have it work for under 3k I think I'd do it.

Good point,the Vp does work good,it's a reliability issue for me,hating having to change VPs all the time,I did get over 200k out of the one thats on my 01 engine,it's just that if the CPS or any other little thing goes bad then the darn thing quits running!

Does it need alot of fuel pressure?
mine makes 15psi all the time,driven off the crank.

I will tell you this - I have a 12V and a 01 24V and I do prefer the way the VP-44 truck runs (especially in the cold).

I think over 200k out of the stock IP is all anyone should expect.

If money is a concern - with $1k, youll be back on the road.
