Remote Oil Filter for Cummins 5.9 24v
 

I see people saying if you go twin turbo you have to move the oil filter, but my question concerns relocating the filter on the stock 5.9 24v.

It is hard to reach comfortably without making a mess, and getting one (or a twin filter) into a better location might aid cooling as well. Given how often you have to change it, seems logical. So, questions are:

1) some cars have pressure issues and need to have the filter in stock position to deal with that. Is that the case with this engine?

2) if you did remote filter/twin filter, can it be higher or lower than the stock location?

3) what do you do about that line that comes from the turbo? Is that really a drain and can it go to a new connection directly to the engine oil pan?

4) anyone every used a Transdapt 1213 remote dual filter setup?

5) what is the answer to the question I haven't thought of yet, but is important? :humm:

I didn't relocate my filter until a year after having compound turbos. The factory location works, its just a little miserable to get to. I would remove the tube between the filter and primary turbo to access the oil filter easier.

1, I didn't notice a pressure difference when I installed an AmsOil dual filter remote set up. Filters are in my front bumper, easily an additional 8-10 feet for the oil to travel

2, yes it can be. Although it is harder to pump oil against gravity, what goes up must come down.

3, yes, if you like to punch a hole in you pan. There is a second oil return port on these engines, it is blocked off from factory.

4, As mentioned above, mine is an AmsOil kit.

5, Yes, do look into what filters can mount to the system you are buying. Currently, I haven't found an alternative filter for one of the two in my set up. Leaving me no option, at this point, but to buy the more expensive AmsOil filter.

Wonder about filters in wheel well . . . a rock kicks up and there goes the oil . . .
Or Air Dog on the frame member . . . is that really safe? Does anyone ever create a cage or pan for them?
