5 Inch Exhaust

How loud is it?

Johnny Cetane 04-10-2008 09:33 AM

Straight or muffled?

I have a 4" downpipe that immediately turns into 5" at the trans. It's an Expandit system with their muffler. The droan is awful at around 2300 RPMs. I haven't decided if I want to do a Donaldson or drop down to 4".

Razutak 04-10-2008 09:50 AM

What is a donaldson? Just wondering because i have that same 5" expandit without a muffler and it has a bad drone at 2200-2300. Its getting annoying with all the trips down interstate going 80.

Johnny Cetane 04-10-2008 10:07 AM

It's a muffler. Many, many big trucks run them as factory equipment. They typically flow just as good, and better in some cases, then most aftermarket mufflers. You and I would probably want the M90535 from what I can tell.

Not my truck but a good sound clip-

raphcummins 01-25-2010 01:45 AM

luke46 01-25-2010 06:15 PM

I have the expandit 4 inch down to five inch straight wouldn't change a thing. I don't think it's too bad in the cab Maybe it's my flat bed but I don't mind it at all I love the noise when I open my passenger side window. How do I make it louder.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 01-25-2010 07:36 PM

Tip size can affect the sound.

NCFPD 01-25-2010 08:54 PM

what you all mean when you say DROAN and LUKE tell us how the tip makes a diff. whats the diff. sizes do I ask bec. i am going to an exspandit 5 inch back no muff. and i want it loud and deep sounding but i wanna put a 6inch tip on it

Diesel Dawgs Performance 01-25-2010 10:48 PM

In my opinion the larger the tip the deeper the sound. a 5" straight piped with a 6" tip will sound very nice. Only way to get louder would be stacks.

NCFPD 01-25-2010 11:56 PM

thats cool then I wish i had the money for the bullydog 6ich system turbo back

Diesel Dawgs Performance 01-26-2010 12:21 AM

To many fitment issues with the 6"

NCFPD 01-26-2010 02:00 PM
