Hamilton Cam 24v Big stick

do i need to replace cam barings when i install a new cam and what els do i need to do?? will this cam work with a stock truck?

RAW 02-13-2013 06:46 PM

The cam will work for sure. I have the same one, works great. There is only one bearing at the front. As long as it isn't damaged, you will be fine.

Resurfaced lifters is a very good idea when replacing the cam. If you plan to run higher RPMs or big boost, 110# valve springs are a good idea as well.

isnt there more then one bearing?? say i have my engine apart right now and the only way to cahnge the bearings is to have the block sent out or buy the tool. had a guy tell me that i would have to change all the bearings or i would score the cam up. and could i just go with some new lifters?

RAW 02-15-2013 06:52 AM

You can go new, but it will cost more. You'll save close to half going with resurfaced lifters.

There is only one bearing at the front. You could change it yourself. This guy that told you this, what are his credentials? Long time gas engine guy? Then ya, he probably would say that. I replaced my Cam last spring, there is only one bearing.

what is a better cam? the colt stage 3 or hamiltons?

RAW 02-15-2013 07:52 PM

Depends on the Hamilton you choose. Anything more than the stage 3 colt or equivalent, and engine work may be required.

i was looking at the big stick but they both offer the big stick. are they both the same?

Rayrod 02-21-2013 01:01 PM

what kind and how big of a difference did you get with the bigstick?? over stock RAW.

RAW 02-21-2013 03:00 PM

I don't have any exact numbers, but it is a SIGNIFICANT difference. You can feel it in every driving situation. I did loose a little boost at all speeds, and about 4psi overall. Less resistance to flow, less pressure, so it's a good thing. EGT's dropped 100* at WOT. I can step into it more from a stop without rolling coal. It sounds a little deeper now. HP/TQ wise, no idea.
