Program Stuck In ECM?

Hey guys, just got the 2000 engine running in my 01.5,other than the cruise don't work it runs very good.....too good,I finally got my guages on and the thing makes 32psi,should'nt the ECM de-fuel after it gets to like 22psi or something? (it's a "235hp" engine)
Is it possible that someone put a superchips/other program in the truck i got the engine from?
I don't have any idea if the program stays with the truck or with the engine..
I thought maybe it had some higher hp injectors in it,but I don't even know how I'd know:argh:
I'm going to put some ddp 75hp injectors in it when I get a minute,I thought I had the injectors in the truck sold..but I can't sell them as higher output if I can't know what they are.:madd:
Anyone who can help,I'd sure appriciate it.

P.S. I'm hauling to Canada alot right now,so I'll check this every time I get home.
Thanks Guys/Gals
Brian

A programmer "flashes" the ECM with the program. It doesnt have anything to do with the truck or the engine, BUT, once you flash a program in the ECM it "marries" the programmer to the ECM until you load the stock tune back in.

PS- defueling is performed after several parameters are met that the ECM looks for. It takes boost, EGT's, wheel speed, VSS speed, input & output shaft speed, AAT, coolant and tranny temp, etc. into account to cause defueling.

if yer gettin 32 psi than it will set an overboost code...............unless ya got a boost fooler or chip of some kind

with that bein said I think its highly possible you have a hidden chip or a download on the ECM

a dealer scan can tell if someone has been in ther however they cant see "what"

Lookin at this in my simple terms, is the truck actually de-fueling or is the wastegate opening. Sounds like your describing that waste gate is opening at 32psi. The waste gate is a mechanical operation and de-fuleing is an electronic operation. If it's the wastgate just check to see if it is still the factory brass elbow on the turbo or if it has been replaced. An aftermarket will either have a small pinhole in it or a small allen head set screw that you should be able to see looking at it from the front side of the truck.

It does not seem to be defueling at all,I'd thought that I should see some defueling at that sort of pressure, not that there is anything wrong with 32 psi,it's just outside norm for that 235hp engine.
It has a "boost elbow" on it,and I expected that it might get to 32psi with the hx35 on there,it just seemed like it should have had less power,if it was being defueled.(I'm sure the waistgate is opening too 32 must be about stock for the HX)
This engine has the same power as my moms that has the Edge W/Attitude (pump untapped),thats like +65hp right?

Like I say,I don't know what I'm talking about,so everything I can learn is a good thing!
this is the first I've tryed putting a different engine year in.
bummer that my cruise don't work, but I've heared that can be a problem.

I thank you guys for the responses so far :pals:

If it is still the stock turbo from the old motor and you say it is being the HX35 then your stock gate settings should be around the 22-23psi for opening. It is set from the turbo wastegate itself and wouldn't have anything to do with the motor or electronics at all. It's just Vaccuum and a spring. in the little bell like contraption hangin off the side of the turbo.

Does that elbow have the hole in it or a set screw is the big question. If so that is why your seeing the high boost pressures and it will probably set a code eventually if you do not have the chip of some sort to go with it.

It does have the little brass elbow with the little hole in it,same one that comes with the Edge.
I was under the impression that the 235hp engines came with the HY rather than the HX and that the HX made more pressure than the HY did.
This engine here has the same turbo as the 245hp "HO" engine that came out did.(same kind not same one)
When I bought this engine it was on there,so someone did something extra with it before I got it,trying to figure out WTH!:updance:

Would'nt that overboost code come up with the 3 turn key trick?
all i've gotten is the 1693.
and might it make the CEL light up? so far no CEL light.

Your out a my league on the specifics of this 235hp engine specs. On the the stock motor in these trucks the difference between the HX and the HY is that the Manual trannies came with HX and the Auto's came with the HY. The HY carries a small amount less in the boost dept but generally speaking they are pretty close to each other. The HX holds just a little extra because the manual tranny in stock configuration was that little bit stronger and carried a heavier tow rating.

But in any case if you have the Boost fooler elbow this is why your seeing the higher boost numbers. The only problem with this is that at some point your computer is gonna see the higher boost one to many times and throw the over boost code on the truck. If you have the controllor to go with it, it is what overwrites that and tells the computer that the boost pressures are normal.

I'm expalining this in extremely generic terms here, just cause my brain works better that way. In reality there is a lot of comlicated things involved here but it all boils down to the same thing in the end. You will either need to install a stock elbow or get a box for the truck to keep from throwing trouble codes at some point.

The whole check engine light thing is extremely misleading in these trucks. Only some codes will activate that light but many don't. Your on board diagnostic scan is the same way, it will show many of the codes but no where near all of them. It's a nice feature but not a replacement for a good quality scanner.

Yeah,just thought it might.
The turbo thing is not something I know for sure.
The 01.5 245hp engine that came in my 6speed truck has a HX35 and would make 32psi
The 2000 235hp engine six speed that is in my truck now has the same HX35turbo,same pressure.(32psi)
Moms 2000 235hp engine 5speed has the HY with a boost elbow and makes 23psi.
so my exp is limited.
I've got a BD boost fooler coming, but I'd rather get my $60 back if I do not need that thing, unless it actually helps.
I'd hate to lose a program I like, the truck runs great...but I sure wish I knew why it was so powerfull,as of now it's got nothing other than gauges that I can tell
