2002 dodge 3500 safe to turn up?
 

Hey guys new to post and new to diesel trucks. I have a question I'm hoping you guys can help me with. My grandfather bought a 2002 dodge 3500 DRW 2wheel drive new and recently replaced it with a new version. The 02 has around 300,000 miles on it, has been well maitained and is completly stock. My question is would it be safe to upgrade it or dose it need to be overhauled first. I purchesed the truck from him and was planning a 4 inch exhaust s+b air filter kit and maybe a diablo power puck. Any information would be a great help. The truck runs great no white smoke or anything.

Is it automatic? you can upgrade about 100HP if you have a manual, about 60HP if you have the auto without doing upgrades.. you will want a bigger lift pump as well.

The truck is a 5-speed.

What you wrote looks ok,get a better lift pump & gauges,as you said it doesn't smoke or anything I wouldn't go too crazy on something that is dependable

You won't need to worry about the engine. It isn't uncommon to see they go past a million miles. Although highly modified, a 5.9L can churn out 2000+ HP.

You list of mods look reasonable. Adding a good lift pump would be in your best interest. $500 now can save $1000+ in the future.

Thanks for all the great info guys, I'm going to get the lift pump first then exhaust, air filter (is dry better than oiled filters), then a programmer with built in gauges. Do the air fuel seperators really help that much?

1.Dry seems to be the better of the two, that being said I do run an oiled filter and never had any problems.

2.Yes air/fuel separators do help.

thanks, this truck is going to be my daily driver so I want to upgrade it with good stuff. I want to make it as efficient as possible, thats why i was intrested in the air fuel seperator. Any other suggestions on parts?

I'm in a similar position with my truck. It it new to me and stock. First and foremost, I decided to do fuel pump with filters (went with a FASS 150 titanium and an extra set of filters) and gauges (went with Edge Juice with Attitude, CTS, and backup camera). Just because I want to make sure my vp44 is getting good pressure, otherwise things could get costly if it should starve for fuel. I put my new exhaust that I want real bad, on hold, only because I wanted to absolutely have gauges as a top priority. You can use our sponsor page, and get a quote for your products.
